Can the Batman Brand Be Monetized?

Is there any successful comic book hero blogs out there that are tailored around just one person. Just curious. I might go into this market once I become very successful with my other website first. Any thoughts?

Yes. By the owner of its trademark (and/or by some other people who have bought an appropriate license to monetize/merchandize it, of course).

I appreciate that your question isn't only about domain-names, but the principles mentioned in this post may help you: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post9507887

I ain't worried about a domain name. I have an idea of what type of name I could give the site. I am very much aware about copyright laws. Thanks anyway.

Well, this isn't about copyright law: "monetizing someone else's brand" is about trademark law. "Just saying".

Maybe I should have worded the question a different way. I mean monetizing it by doing reviews of the brand such as it's comics, movies, and any tv shows that it may have. And maybe I should have said trademark instead. Anyway I am still aware of the issue. Just saying

Of course than can be monetised with advertisement. Just look at all the websites that make news and reviews based on movies, comics and tv series.

Maybe you can do a special community around Batman and offer premium memberships for unique and exclusive content.

Well, you can sell Batman merchandise using amazon. Better get use to earning a 4% commission. Yo, that is not a lot of money. Still, it beats being arrested and finding out the hard way that selling Batman T-shirts is risky enterprise as your vendor will claim all the licenses are in order and what you are doing is proper. Then when things get hot they run away.

I am not worried about the 4% commission right now dude. Like I said before I should have worded the question another way. I want to test to see how much traffic I can get to the sight first before I start making money off it.

I would avoid using trademarks. It makes no sense to build a site up only to have it taken down. If you're talking about creating content around the trademark and then monetizing it with ads, that should be fine.

BTW: Parody is covered by fair use doctrine. I think your biggest risks here are A) logo use and B) Domain name.

On the whole, you get what you pay for.

Yes, you can do this. You have to be careful about trademarks and logos, etc. as you say you know. Especially domain names.

You can review movies, comics, authors, illustrators, toys, fan fiction, whatever you want.

Affiliate marketing is fine, for example review and showcase high priced collectable comics on eBay through the EPN program. Amazon Affiliate for toys, action figures, etc.

If you sign-up as an affiliate at All Posters you can use poster images for article pictures. This gives you an affiliate link to the poster and legal use of trademarked logos and images on your blog. They have lots of nice D.C, Marvel and Disney characters and images.

This site is an All Posters affiliate batman-news.com the same guy runs spidermannews.com. He is using trademarks in the domains and has either avoided detection or the company doesn't actively pursue fan sites.

This is a Batman blog (Bat-Blog) on Blogger tomztoyz.blogspot.ca has some pretty cool toys and videos featured.

You could analyze those sites for traffic, demographics, etc. They have a Twitter, facebook, etc. too.
