Started a game forum, what's next?

Hi,

I recently started an unofficial GTA 5 forum with domains i acquired in 2010, yet due to good competition it seems impossible to establish a user base.. even though the high popularity of the title.

Any advice what you think is necessary for a successful start of community highly appreciated.

    Well basically you just need to get traffic to your forum.

    You need to advertise your forum on different sites, social media and youtube.

    Make an instagram account about GTA5 and have your forum URL on every pic.

    Make youtube videos and upload them to your GTA5 forum youtube account. Add URL and call them to join!

    Facebook groups work wonders to get real traffic...

    Just keep an open mind and try to get traffic to your forum. That's it.

    Once you have lots of users it might just go viral and the forum might blow up in userbase!

      Thanks, i already have the related twitter url, yet i made the mistake not creating a new account for the FB page that received only 4 likes yet with 21 more to go..

      google seems to ignore any of sites though

    No one wants to go and eat at the empty restaurant.

    Same with forums. No one wants to hang out on a forum where there is little to no activity.

    But how do you then get that activity right? Catch 22.

    It's all about social proof.

    You need to get the forum active. If initially this means artificially then so be it. I would go and invest in a paid forum posting service who create user accounts and start posting on the forum. You need that initial activity if you have any chance of getting other users interested in joining.

    First I want to say that I really hope you didn't start the forum to make money because forums are extremely hard to monetize. With that said, if you are wanting to do it simply because you love the game, just tell your friends about it and ask them to tell their friends. Social media can be pretty big for driving traffic, especially to video game related things.

      Its not enough to send traffic to the forum. Matter of fact as Will said sending traffic to a forum that has few posts would be a waste of money. Get some profiles and posts first and then start advertising on sites in the gaming niche.I'm sure you'll find a few on Buysellads.

    create fake profiles and make the forum active active

    there are 1000s of forums create a reason for others to join your forum no one likes to join an empty forum
