How to collect email address's from directory customers?

Hi,

I am launching my new site next month, it's essentially a directory (in a small niche) where I have visitors that will place paid adverts and then I have visitors that are interested in those adverts.

Visitors placing adverts are required to create an account, and so I will have their email address's anyway.

Visitors that are "browsing" will not be required to create an account (obviously) and so I currently have no way to collect email address's for these people with the objective to bring them back.

  • How could I collect their email address's?
  • What incentive could I give to bring them back to the site once I have their email address?

My first thought was add a popup opt-in form with a small discount bribe, but I can't offer discounts on what others are selling.

I know that my competitors are not trying to do this, but it seems like a wasted opportunity not to even try...

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

      Hey,

Thanks for the suggestion, only problem is there is absolutely no reason for a visitor to login unless they are creating an advert.

Have a floating popup appear saying hey, before you go enter your email to be entered into our competition. Then, on the "thanks" page just put a CPAlead offer.

You've got their email & you make a bit of money, 2 birds with one stone.

Thank you! A Competition incentive is not a bad idea at all, I wonder how well competitions convert?

Does anyone have any more ideas? Perhaps long term incentive?
