Creating a new product for a competitive niche?

Hello all,

I want to create my own information product, including a unique and original ebook and a funnel of upsells as well (Audio book, Videos, EMail Courses, etc). As usual the hardest part of the process is deciding on what niche to dive into. Of course, at this point most of the niches that have the best traffic seem to be inundated with products or affiliates selling products.

As an example, the How to Get Back Your Ex niche is one that I have been considering, as it is something that I have some experience with However, that niche is quite popular these days and I am obviously going to be fighting an uphill battle to get on the first page of Google for the more popular keywords. On the other hand, it almost seems like a battle worth fighting, considering the demand and the mindset of the buyer.

My question is, should I even consider going into a niche that is so popular? I know I can create a killer product, I am very confident in buliding a great sales page, and I plan on building a content based site around the topic, not just running PPC to a sales pitch. I probably will focus solely on organic traffic at first, until I can build up a coffer for ad costs. The goal is to rank highly in the organics for a bevy of long and short tail keywords based on content, SEO, and backlinks.

Once that site and product is up and converting, I would move onto another niche, lather rinse and repeat.

Any thoughts? Much appreciated...

The relationship niche is an excellent niche. If you are going to go the route of producing your product, you must know that the content you create is really only half the battle.

The other half has to do with how well you can distribute your product. You can do it all yourself, but to make it much MUCH easier, you should set up an affilaite program through Clickbank. You then need to aggressively promote your product to affiliates.

The good news is that you can look at how sellers promote their products to affiliates by clicking on their "affiliate" link on their sales page. Research how extensively they offer materials to affiliates to help promote....Now you have templates that you can pattern your affiliate program off of!

Thank you Michael, that is excellent advice and clickbank is definitely in the plans, I noticed that the major players in this niche are pulling over 75% of their sales from affiliates, so that model obviously must be working!
