It depends on each country and territory. Is the rings business really hot in your location. If it is, then its a great product to go with the wholesalers. Let us know how it goes.

Your best bet is to avoid alibaba and head right to the Canton Fair and meet directly with the factories where you can figure out what products they sell, touch and feel them and actually shake their hands. I can't see what you would offer over alibaba since the purpose of the site is for people wanting to import things.

It seems that you want to use Alibaba or Aliexpress for sourcing the products, but your post belongs in the eCommerce sites, Wholesaling and Dropshipping forum here on WF.

I would strongly advise against using either of those sites.

Before sourcing through Alibaba or Aliexpress you might like to have a look at the thread How Trustworthy is Alibaba.com?

I would like to point out that all of the big B2B sourcing sites work on a similar basis. This means that in most cases you can't rely on what the suppliers say about whether or not they are manufacturers. Most of them are not.

You might be happy with that if you are satisfied with the low profit margins you get when you buy from wholesalers. For maximum profits you must go direct to the manufacturer.

Just think for a moment - Q: Where do wholesalers buy? A: From the manufacturers. They then add their profit margin and sell to you. You can go direct to the manufacturers and pocket that extra margin for yourself.

Because few people do any kind of searching on the forum I will repeat what I have written many times, that Gold Supplier status (or on sites other than Alibaba) Gold Star, Gold member, Premium member etc, do not earn that status. They BUY it.

Another shorter thread that might interest you is
Do I need to go to China to source suppliers?

I'd suggest you find some import agents in your country that already have the type of inventory you want. Then see if you're successful selling that. You'll pay a little more starting that way but the advantage of this is that you won't need to make some of the major commitments that are necessary dealing directly with factories and large scale import/export firms.

This is quite a good suggestion to start off testing the market by reselling something you can buy locally.

I would however point out that small purchases direct from manufacturers are possible and a major commitment is not necessary.

A sample purchase could achieve the objective of testing the market, but would also test the supplier.

For the type of product the OP is interested in, I would suggest looking for smaller manufacturers in Taipei or Hong Kong.
