Twitter Listbuilding Is Working...

I thought some Warriors might find this is interesting.

My business partner and I stuck one of those viral Twitter scripts on the download page for our lead capture site.

We're seeing daily traffic to the squeeze page from Twitter just from the form on the download page alone. The form basically asks for the Twitter user to Tweet the squeeze page and they enter their Twitter username and password.

Today we're getting a Tweet for it almost every hour.

Hi Jason, I would love to know the exact steps you took to do this as I am looking to build a list to have a Blog in the Health niche. Thanks in advance.

      Sure.

All we did was stick this Viral Tweets form on our download page: Viral Tweet Code Generation

The message within your form needs to contain the link that leads back to your squeeze page.

Then type the URL that's being Tweeted into Twitter Search to track how many people are Tweeting it: Twitter Search

        that sounds very interesting...

going to give it a shot.

I used one from Brad Callen a while back and got something like 22 followers the same day. But then it dropped off the next day.

        Probably needed daily work.

You have to have traffic first.

I need to look at the stats on my business partner's account, but I want to say 90%+ of opt-ins come from other sources. The Twitter traffic is just a bonus.

...Point is, anyone can stick one of these things on their download page and increase their opt-ins.

I saw a couple of scripts about a week or so ago and thought the idea would make a great wordpress plugin. So I wrote one. It's the link in my sig.

Plugins like TweetMyBlog and Tweet This are great at kicking off traffic and then offering a freebie or a goodie via my plugin accelerates the viral effect.

      Hey Jason,

I've been using ViralTweet on a download page and got a few replies
back telling me that they would never give out their twitter
password... even if I offered a great bonus to do it.

So I added a small message saying that "using the graphic below,
no password is required" and another Tweet This graphic
under the ViralTweet form where they still could Re-Tweet your
message, but it brings them to their Twitter account...
if they are logged-in, the message is already typed up in their update
field, they just need to hit send, and if they are not, they need to log-in
      first.

All this to say, people were still using the ViralTweet form 2 times out of 3,
so I only left the ViralTweet form, because, as you know, what's great about
doing it this way is that you can re-direct them where you want after they
      submit with ViralTweet...

      Cheers, Pete

I've actually turned quite a few of them in Instant customers, because after they
submit the ViralTweet form, you direct them where you want... in my case,
an OTO that's been converting pretty good!

      Kindest Regards,
      Pete

Today we just split the traffic up so that Twitter traffic is now going to a separate squeeze page so we can figure out what sort of opt-in rate and what sales are coming through from Twitter traffic during the signup process.

    Guys,

You don't even need a script to do this really. Just a link. For example on a thank you page we have to distribute a wordpress plugin we have this message...

"Click This Link To ReTweet About The Plugin And Send Us Some Loving"

It's just a standard HTML link that links to...

http://twitter.com/home?status=RT @DuncanCarver: Free WordPress Plugin Allows You To Exchange Links With Other Bloggers http://www.contextualpartnership.com

...simply change your username and the message you want them to tweet above and use the whole lot as the actual link. It works a treat.

    Here are some recent results...

...the other benefit is you don't need to ask for a username and password for their twitter account. If they are not logged on when clicking the link, they'll be asked to login as normal and their tweet box will still remain prepopulated with the above message.

I haven't tested it but I would be surprised if asking for that information didn't reduce response rates as you're getting into privacy issues.

    Simple and effective.

    Best...

Here is the actual code to create a link for anyone that doesn't get me...

<p><a href="http://twitter.com/home?status=RT @DuncanCarver: Free WordPress Plugin Allows You To Exchange Links With Other Bloggers http://www.contextualpartnership.com"><strong>Click This Link To ReTweet About The Plugin And Send Us Some Loving</strong></a></p>

Again, just change the username after the @ character to your own and everything after the : is the message you want them to tweet. Obviously make sure it's not too long.
