why domain at godaddy costs too much?

few years ago i could buy a simple dot com domain at the price of 2.99$ or 4.99$ per a year. (no extras like email, privacy, hosting and etc, only the domain name)

today it costs 14.99$ !!! why?

are there any other cheaper websites?

thanks!

Even at $14.99 a YEAR, small price to pay for your own online business. Just a part of doing business.

Sure there are cheaper ones, or you can usually find coupons for other registars. DirectNic almost always has a coupon.

mobile989, you can do a search in any search engine for "godaddy discount code"

You'll get plenty of working discount codes.

The code below is for a .com domain plus private registration for ONLY $4. It expires on 11-30-2014.

I've bought dozens of domains from godaddy and I usually pay no more than $5 for each one. New godaddy discount codes are available every month and you can only use each code once per godaddy account.

Dot coms at namecheap are only $10.69/yr and they come with free whois guard. I think you can also get it a little cheaper if you are a new customer or bundle it with hosting or something. Personally, I would keep my hosting and domains with separate companies, though.

There are plenty of godaddy coupons on the net. Spend 10 minutes on google having a look for one!

I recently got a years economy hosting for around £9 and that included a free .com domain BARGAIN

Simple supply and demand plus inflation at work. Good recommendations here on getting better deals. I am more concerned about gas prices

Over the past few years I have been moving my domains away from GoDaddy to NameCheap. Seems like NameCheap keeps the domains (and renewals) under $11 per year while GoDaddy wants $15-$17 to renew .com domains... and they pretty much eliminated all renewal coupons.

I always go to this site before buying anything on GoDaddy: GoDaddy Promo Code - GoDaddy Coupon November 2014 (not an affiliate link).

I have used GoDaddy and Namecheap in the past and I really like both of them. Yes the prices have been going up but the prices are still really cheap for what you get. less than $20 a YEAR and with that you have the ability to make good money online. Just one affiliate sale could pay for that one domain for an entire year. It seems worth it to me.

Between $10-15 seems to be the norm these days, as others have suggested just search for a discount code..

I own 5 domains - all at $15/year. Great bargain in my eyes. Had it been $15/month, i would reconsider. It already pays for itself, and by the time it comes to renew... i won't even think twice about it. It's going to pay for itself from all the sales that i'm making. You should have the same mindset. Forget the price to launch a real business, and go for it.
