Is this something that happens?

I have all my websites hosted with Hostgator. Last Sunday night,
all my websites went down. I tried to view my websites on Firefox
but I kept getting an error that connection could not be established.
I was able to view other websites though. I thought it was Hostgator
updating something or whatever. The next morning my websites were
live again.

And now, my websites are down again. Is this something that happens?

What really sucks is both times my sites were down when EzineArticles
are just approving my articles and I think I'm losing all those initial clicks.
I also don't think it's a server overload. Any ideas?

It's happened to me occasionally that all my HostGator sites (those that are on the same server) will be down. Usually it's only for a few minutes, though sometimes it has been longer.

Call HostGator support. They generally know what's going on and can give you an ETA for being back online.

Now and then it happens, but you should still contact HG, as there may be something else going on that you need to know about.

My brief time with them was a complete disaster. I use 3 different hosts and they are all excellent. I like to spread my risk so that if one turns bad I still have some internet real estate left in place.
I spread mine around too (4 different hosts). But I've been with HG for 3 years and have dozens of sites on my reseller account there. They've never given me reason to complain. Other well-regarded hosting companies have had far more downtime than HG in my experience.

Apparently everyone's mileage varies on this.

    damn...too slow....

weird that people seems to be ok with having their website down "from time to time"

If my host was down even for a few minutes i would be out.

I honestly believe it happens with all hosts from time to time.
But when a problem occurs, hostgator's support stands out.
They have always been helpful and I appreciate that.

It might now even be the server that is down. It could be a network component totally outside the control of HG. I had a server at a company who facility was on the same block where a major fire ocurred and it affected the entire datacenter. Even though everything inside was up and running just fine, no traffic was getting in or out.
