harsh times, still no sales

Actually, i just had to accept into a bid on a set of domains i could have never thought of to accept just a few month ago.. and that's been before putting another 3 weeks of work into my hdtrailers website and backend..

Does anyone else feels like the whole online marketplace finally collapsed, and sites that were once worth several thousands are flipped* for just a few bucks today?

It is all about supply and demand. 8 to 10 years ago you could get A premium on a quickly flipped site. However in the current market because it is saturated with similar websites prices are forced lower.

However for the right niche you can still command a good return. My suggestion would be to buy a number of domains develop them over a period of a year rather than a number of weeks and this should make a difference to the premium
    That you can command.

The other option is to pursue domain parking.

Exactly that is my issue right now.. i just did not expect a competitor i had for my #1 keyword .com domain to invest daddys money into 50.000 backlinks to his .net hyphen keyword domain, just to ruin the whole niche for me.. with more time i would laugh about that, but it's a sad fact :/

Sadly, it can be a dog-eat-dog business sometimes. You just have to get over it and move on.

        rtws,

Contrary to what you're expressing, it's no one's fault but your own that your business is failing. I'm sorry to be so blunt, but I think you need to hear the truth rather than think other people are the cause of "no sales" as you say . . . and an over saturated market.

Your business is your responsibility, and yours alone. There is no problem in the market right now at all. If you're not making sales, look at your systems in place, modify what you have to, find a different audience, or do whatever it takes to become successful. But don't blame your lack of success on others. That's not the problem.

There are plenty of great dot com domains available right this minute and you can register any of them for $1.99 or less. But as others have said, the domain name itself is not the reason for your troubles. The name doesn't have to be great for you to have a great business.

I'm not trying to be harsh or rude with this post . . . but I just sense that you're so close to the situation that you can't really see what's happening here. You need a reality check.

1.99 per year, and more than 1 domain per customer? I'd be glad to know where that is available

The market place is still the same. Of course, there are always some minor changes here and there but the foundations in the market place online are still the same.

I've realized that the only ones who collapse are people - not business models at all. Just my 2cents!

If you don't mind me asking. Where do you sell your domains?

      It doesn't matter.

Success in the domaining business isn't about "where you sell them".

It's much more about your skills at identifying, approaching and negotiating with the parties to whom the domain-name may have potential added value because of the nature of their own businesses. If those people don't even know that it's for sale, then it typically makes no difference where you sell it.

Alexa is right on the money here as usual.

I'm heavily into domaining, domain flipping, website development and flipping. I will say that knowing where to sell is an important aspect, but it's a very small part of the overall equation. As my students will attest, there is a great deal of money available to professional domain flippers, but you do need to learn all of the ins and outs to become successful.

I'm sorry to hear this, rtws.

This probably isn't what you want to hear: I've been at this for over 2 decades and business has never been better. There are just so many different ways to make money.

I sounds like you flip domains and websites. I do this myself and do very well at it. I'll keep an eye out for you around WF and I'll be sure to help out where I can.

    Hi..
that's why I always choose paid traffic than manual one. If you build the website the manual way, then just flip it as soon as it starts to generate traffic
