How Many Hours Do You Work Per Week?

With the holidays fast approaching, and my family already in high spirits, I'm never more aware than I am right now of how many hours I dedicate to work.

I work for an average of 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. 72 hours from Monday to Saturday. But I'll also monitor operations and whatnot on a Sunday via iPhone and iPad, bringing the average total to around 75 hours a week, or thereabouts.

And the thing is, it isn't about the money. I could stop working today and not feel the pinch in the least. With me it's about being obsessed with the game. I was one of those kids who'd never be bored. And nothing's changed. I love wandering into my office here, powering up the computers, and in the words of Beetlejuice, seeing what "shakes loose."

So!

How many hours a week do you work? And what motivates you? The money? The obsession? Hiding from your wife?!!

Best,

GRM

Around five hours per day. Three very good and focused hours from the late morning (usually content creation), and then two or three hours of miscellaneous task-based work in the late afternoon. Anything more seems to provide diminishing returns for me.

Wow, more power to you guys that are putting in 60 and 70 hours a week.

For me, anywhere from 3 to 5 hours a day.

The great thing about IM is you can put some work in at the beginning and after a while you can really level it off if you choose that as a Goal !! .

I ALWAYS have had the mantra in IM to work 'smart' hours and not necessarily long hours.

That is what attracted me to this wonderful industry in the first place

As much as I love IM, I have a Life outside of it that I get much more self enrichment from ( family, kids, sports)

        No contest.

How do you make sure each day is productive if you don't keep track of your hours or how long it took to complete a certain task and then calculate the $/hr of that venture?

Not trying to be mean or anything, just asking cus for me personally, the hours I work represents another set of data that I can look and see if certain tasks need to be outsourced or if a certain outcome is worthy of the hours I put into it.

I put in at least 60 hours per week, but I make sure those hours have plenty of other things interspersed so that I don't get burned out on doing business.

I could work less hours . . . but these are the things I enjoy doing. I could stay away from the WForum, but I enjoy trying to help other business owners.

I have found that those who are truly top marketers online have the skills to be able to manage their business(es) around the things they enjoy. Some only work a few hours per week and have figured out how to leverage their time to free up hours so they can do the things they love.

Other Internet marketers love their niches and their business so much that they don't consider hours spent on IM to be "work" per se.

Either way, the whole draw of IM to me is the fact that when you are successful, you can figure out how to do what you want (whether work related or not) when you want, and still be able to take care of all your bills at the end of the month.

I don't need a million dollars to make me happy. All I really need is enough to fund my chosen lifestyle and to have more coming in than going out!

The best to all of you,

        Steve

70-80 hours per week. But it's from home and as others have said, I love what I do. I'm F/T IM and never been happier, even 50hrs per week in corporate was too much.

60-80 hours per week? Wow lol... i only work on my business about 14 hours per week. And soon it's going to be 7 hours per week once i'm done with my plan with my email marketing/autoresponder. This won't take long to complete. Wow guys, it's like you all left one 40-hour corporate job... just to work another "job" (at home) for even more hours!. I'm sure the financial income is there, but what about the time freedom?

Before I give my answer.... I am going to bet there is a factor involved when we start looking at the hours worked. Few hours few if only 1 site. many hours probably equals many sites.

I personally have many sites, as well as a "Business" that I run. I personally am in excess of 100 hours a week, and have been for years.

I take 4 week long vacations a year with my family, and I don't miss a practice/game or homework time with my son. I even eat dinner with the family every night.

My 3rd largest business expense? coffee ha ha ha no really! ha ha

Truth be told, I don't measure how many hours I actually "work"

The reason I put "work" in quotes is because I don't think checking some stats could be called work, thats just my opinion.

As for what motivates me, the lifestyle. Being able to do what I want when I want, being able to make a difference in someones life, just a few things that motivate me.

If you're working more than 4-5 hours a day at IM and still not shaking it then you need a lobotomy. Why did you come into this type of business? Why didn't you stay in your secure 9 to 5 paid job?

From experience, I'll twist this up a bit.

If you're working more than 4 to 5 hours a day and not making any money...... examine your process and then get focused and work 50 hours a week with razor sharp FOCUS and EFFICENCY.

the problem is..... a lot of people work on things that DONT MAKE THEM ANY MONEY.

Fix that and work 50 hours a week.

If you do that and don't make 3 million a year..... THEN maybe this isn't for you.

Sure you can make $150.00 in 2 hours but to create sustanable and substantial wealth, in my experience, you've got to work full time.

That's the way I see it. Speak to any millionaire and they'll tell you..... they worked (more than) full time, at least in the beginning if they don't now.

I'd likely have a lot more time for myself if i took on an assistant and outsourced more work. At the moment i don't feel I'm ready to delegate the tasks out.

I vary my work load between 3 - 10 hours daily. It's sometimes hard for me to pull away because some projects i take on pull in far more than expected so i feel compelled to push harder.

Once i outsource I'm sure 1 - 2 hours daily will be more than enough to handle things.

Well i was technically insane when i first started out pulling all nighters to get things rolling for my business. It was quite a while before i saw a positive return on my efforts, but it was all worth it.

I think you have to be a bit crazy to persevere in any business when things don't look good and you're either breaking even or losing money. Business is about profit, right?

But craziness is when led me to where i am now. Staying up way beyond healthy hours, forsaking entertainment countless times so i could work, attempting to get the family to understand that what you're doing will soon pay off...all of that was part of the ride for me, and it all turned out well.

Now...for the people who have been online 5+ years and have almost nothing to show for it. That's a different story lol I consider those people hobbyists rather than actual business-oriented folks.

About 50 to 60 a week and that's with an assistant!

I'm usually "working" in my office 2 to 4 hours a day.... then meetings, traveling.

I spend most of my time consulting and managing at this point in my life and career. So that 50 to 60 hours a week isn't always "in the office" per se..... but is ALWAYS somehow business related which simply means doing things to make money and enhance my personal wealth or managing things to do same.

It could be managing employees, a meeting, consulting a member, group coaching, dealing with commercial rentals or putting together a real estate deal.

No matter how many hours you work for a day, a week or a month, for me the most important thing is i love my job. Without passion in your job, you will feel more stress and frustrated when problems come to you. If you found a job that you love, you will enjoy every moment when you are doing it although it is out of working hour.

Do what you like or love is the most important fact in your life. Of course you must find a balance between work and family so that you will have a happier life!

    Cheers!

Apparently, I have 5 hours a day but most of the time is in the afternoon.

Still learning more in IM business but loving the beauty of working from home as everything is on my own. Used to work as an employee so the stress is something ordinary for me. The difference is that the stress of working as a business owner is happier as I can earn more if I can produce more, unlike the earning as an employee. And I can freely choose the date and hour I would love to work.

AM - PM 7 Days a week. No real set hours but definitely over 10 hours a day
