Buyers Who File Payment Reversal Cases

Hi, everyone. I recently ran a WSO and I'm proud of my product. I listed the product on Warrior Plus. It has glowing reviews from reviewers and buyers. I've made the product temporarily unavailable because I'm so dismayed about what just happened.

Today, a buyer filed a payment reversal case. She claims that the purchase was unauthorized and that her PayPal account was used without her approval. I didn't offer any money back guarantee. The affiliate walks away with the commission, but I'll be required to pay back the full amount to the buyer should PayPal rule in favor of the buyer.

I also had a charge back case filed against me a month ago. The buyer claimed that this was due to an unauthorized use of her credit card. PayPal ruled in her favor.

Have you had a similar experience? What would you advise to sellers like me to prevent this from happening? I would appreciate some advice.

Fraud is rampant in this area. Be careful who you choose to be your affiliate. You should know them.

A common scam is become an affiliate. Buy a whole bunch of items with stolen/fake credit cards. Take the commission. Disappear before the cards start charging back.

This is especially risky with "instant" affiliate payments where the scamming affiliate gets paid at the time of the sale.

The best prevention is to be careful who your affiliates are.

You will always have the occasional scam customer who wants a refund. No big deal- refunds are part of the process.

But if people are filing charge-backs because someone used their card without their authorization then that is a larger problem..

Thank you. The sale was actually from Warrior Plus, not an affiliate. I've contacted support. I hope this will be resolved soon.

Oh, you said in the original post that the affiliate walked away with the commission.

In your case then, you are not out any money. Simply give the refund.

I don't see what the scam/problem is if nobody (affiliate) is making money.

Here's a very good reason not to offer instant commissions for any affiliate you don't know well. I am guessing that is what happened in this case. It's the perfect target for scammers.

[EDIT] Oppps guess it was not from an affiliate. Sorry. Didn't see that. Please let us know what comes about, would be nice to know.

I get this from time to time, and it's not affiliates, just people getting their PP accounts hacked. Usually they fall for the phishing emails. In these cases, not much you can do about it. And yes it really sucks when you get charged a settlement fee, been there done that. I've talked to PP directly a few times over the years and they say the CC companies charge them a fee to investigate, why seller gets charged. Don't know if it's true, but not much you can do.
