Help me take it to the next level

Hey folks. I just got news that there's about a 90% chance I'll be laid off in January, and although I'm confident I can get another job in the same line of work. My heart's just not in it any more. So I'm looking for some advice on how to take my online business from hobby money to full-time income. I've been at this for a few years now and the going has been pretty slow.

Here's a breakdown of where I am at right now:

Internet Business #1
Niche: Real estate classifieds and general buyer info
Vehicle: Blog + Feedburner email list
Monetization: Adsense
Traffic: ~600 uniques per month
Traffic Source: Organic search
Feedburner list: 600
Income: ~$100/month

Internet Business #2
Niche: Gaming
Vehicle: Youtube + Blog
Monetization: Adsense
Traffic: Youtube ~10,000 views/month, blog ~300 uniques/month
Traffic Source: Youtube search
Income: ~$15/month

As far as skills go. I think I'm a reasonably good writer and I am a native English speaker. I have a solid ability to quickly research a topic and become well-versed in it and then figure out how to put that into a simple step-by-step actionable plan that other's can easily follow. If I'm honest I'm probably not that great at following that plan myself though LOL! (Do as I say, not as I do.)

My youtube subscribers say I have an excellent speaking voice and they love to listen and watch as I play games. The lets play gaming niche is of course a hard one to break into and growth as been slow but fairly steady. The amount of traffic required to make any real money from the adsense on youtube is, well, ridiculous! On the other hand who wouldn't want to make money playing games?

I'm not really sure what direction I should go at this point. Am I more likely to reach my goal by building on what I already have, or should I add something new?

    Looks like Gaming is hot right now if you are one of those gamers that can build thousands of Youtube Subscribers watching you play PS4 or Xbox, that one can be huge if you can win over people on Youtube. As far as how I market it in general I can give you what works for me....

    Its all about presentation and targeting.

    1) Presentation and Branding
    2) Think targeting everything you do on social media as far as gaining fans and followers.
    3) When doing SEO on sites pages and blogging use as many keywords as possible in natural manner you are targeting.
    4) Get all the information from a combination of all your competitors, know their followers, fans and how they SEO and backlink and imitate.
    5) Run targeted ads on Google and Bing, Facebook as well is great.
    6) Want to keep in touch with users via email autoresponder. Wordpress has a free one called Mailpoet
    7) Automate as much as possible to save time

    Sounds like you have some decent sites going & would look in monitizing them & possibly work on changing the locations of your ads. Then it sounds like you need to work on finding ways to get at least 10k visitors a day to look at your site. This is my goal as well but would think that would increase your adsense earnings quite a bit.

    I think already you are earning from these niche. So you know every thing what should you do. You can increase your site traffic more & more to earn more. To increase your site traffic, you can do the SEO, Back link both Do-follow & No-follow, related forum posting, blog commenting, Article submission & so on. Thanks.

    Victor - have you considered creating your own digital products? You're in the real estate/Gaming niches and I would guess you could create your own courses or reports and sell these... Grow your own list of buyers

    Thanks for all of your replies!

    Chris, I have thought about it. I could easily write a report/ebook/ecourse on a topic like: how to buy your first house with $1 down. I've done that myself several times. I could also sell supporting products/services like sample contracts and consulting.

    For the gaming niche I'm not as clear about what I could create. I play mostly older games so things like strategy guides might not be that useful.

    Hi Victor Roy
    From your description I got the impression that you have two main things going for you. Your writing skills and your voice. Those are really great qualties. You might want to offer your service doing those things for others. There are many ways to do this, You could offer those services on the Warrior forum in appropriate threads. and also on other sites where people offer their services from Craigslist to fiverr, hirewriters and many more. You could also build onto what you got and take what is working there and multiply it by building more sites and also try to monetize better what you already got.
    Lastly you could try partnering with someone that has got other skills and try to leverage your skills and theirs and build a strong team. With those skills I think you would be valuable to any team, For that matter I would want you on my team. Best of luck to you
