Traffic exchanges can be very good for people who are intending to use them to build an opted-in email list of traffic exchange users with the intention of subsequently promoting something targeted specifically at traffic exchange users.

Everyone using traffic exchanges has the same goal -- to get traffic. That can make their users an absolutely ideal, perfectly targeted audience if you're building a list by giving away a free e-book called "3 Ways To Get Traffic That You've Never Heard Of" and then using the list to promote the product you're selling, which is called "And 5 Even More Brilliant Ways To Get Traffic That Nobody Else Has Ever Heard Of Either". Traffic exchanges can be a goldmine for that kind of business.

In all the threads here about TE's, hundreds of people comment that they're "useless" and "untargeted traffic". At the same time, some people are making five-figure monthly incomes from that traffic (and I'm not talking about traffic exchange owners!). That's because the first group of people have tried to use traffic exchange traffic for a purpose other than the one stated in the paragraph above. That doesn't work, of course. Typically, they call it "untargeted", not quite having worked out that the problem was that what they were doing wasn't specifically targeted at that traffic.

Like so many other issues in internet marketing, it's all about relevance (targeting).

If you're a violin-seller, there's not much point in setting up a stall in a fish-market and then complaining that the traffic there is "untargeted". Some people instinctively see this straight away. Others, it seems (including many who regularly post disparaging comments here in many "traffic exchange threads") haven't quite worked that out.

    Hi Cashnow123

There is more than one way of generating traffic to your site.

Before I answer that let me say something to you.

    1) It is important you learn how to find good quality/ targeted traffic. The way to do this is to understand exactly who buys the type of product your are promoting and target them only. So for example if you were promoting an ebook called 'How to Plan Your Wedding in Ten Easy Steps' you could go to a site such as Facebook and use the options within their advertising plan to only show your advert to newly engaged couples.

    VIDEOS
You could then create some videos around the same topic and start a Wedding Planning Channel on YouTube. Add your link below the video in the first two lines of the description. YouTube allows you to write a 2000 character description. Make sure you do this liberally including relevant keywords as this will help your video to be ranked on both YouTube and Google.

    FORUM
So continuing with my Wedding illustration you could then register for Wedding forums and include a signature that contains a link to your product.

    LEAD CAPTURE
You will need to embrace the fact that most people who click your link are not ready to purchase on the first occasion. It is therefore a good strategy to create a 'lead capture page'. This is simply a page that offers visitors a free gift/bribe in exchange for their email address. Once you have this you can send them follow up emails for both your primary product and other related offers.

Do not spam your subscribers, work hard at overwhelming them with love and value and as they say 'the money is in the list'.

    answers to your question:
No, I don't think free traffic exchange sites are good sources of quality traffic. Some traffic just never converts and this is very possible one of them, that's why they are free. I won't exchange my quality traffic for free, think about the life time value of a lead!

Most free traffic doesn't convert to sales that's why all the leading marketers would say don't waste your time on it when you can get cheap enough targeted paid traffic which converts much better . Hope this helps...

I tried traffic exchanges for a while but it's tough to even get people to sign up for free traffic from them. I would say stick with related forums, social media, & just adding content to build your ranks in the search engines. If you do all of these for a while you should get better results

Traffic exchange is better for collecting leads. If you want free quality traffic try to link exchange with other sites related with your niche.

I think it all boils down to what you mean by quality traffic. I dont think it will be quality in the sense that you could build a list from that traffic and send them an email every few days and build a relationship with them in order to sell them products because ultimately the traffic that opts in though a traffic exchange deal are probably receiving TONS of emails every day and your open rate will not be great and they probably wont be looking forward to your email as they will likely quickly forget who you are amongst the crazy amount of emails they get.

But if you are going to use the traffic for another purpose that is more tailored to the kind of traffic you are getting then yes im sure it can be great quality traffic

This doesnt guarantee you good traffic though. It could be the best site in the world but if no one knows about it then it isnt worth much. Although I do agree that having a great site is a lot of the battle. You will build better lists and have more success if you build from the foundation of a great site.
