Choosing your categories for blog

I created my blog 5 months ago before I knew anything about keywords or SEO, so now Im going back through my site and optimizing it as much as possible. To do this I'm changing my categorie names to related keywords I will use for the home page. I also had posted around 60 articles before i started learning the right way to do this haha. So im going back through these posts and finding good keywords to use for them. I'm wondering if this is a wasted effort? My posts don't get much traffic but thats because I didn't really know how to build traffic to recently.

My understanding is that your re-working efforts are not wasted time, but of course that really hinges on how "good" your keyword research is/was, the competition you face, what your goals are, and likely a few other factors I forgot to list.

But those things aside, it's not a waste of time to re-optimize a previously not-optimized site - I speak from experience where just like you, I made a site and posted content prior to understanding keyword research & SEO, and the site I optimized started ranking well for the keyphrase of choice.

    Hope that helps!

    Best,
    David

yea thanks alot, i wanted to make sure. Im currently using 4-5 keywords for my home page of the blog. They are related to my category choices to help. Should I be focusing on just 1 keyword for the home page or can I work with multiple keywords? Also, on my articles should I be using the keywords from my home page within them or juist stick with the keyword Ive selected for the article?
