can't change my wordpress theme

Hello everyone,

I am unable to change my wordpress theme. When I go to select a new theme the page shows all the themes I have uploaded, however when I click on a new theme to view, .... the originally activated theme is what is displayed, not the new theme I selected. I've tried clearing my browser cache and refreshing my web site. I even deleted the theme that is being displayed, but no matter what I do the theme will not change to a new selection. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? (I'm using ver 2.7.1)

Thanks in advance.

Just try activating it anyway and see what happens... Mine did this once before but I chose to activate it anyway and it worked!

Try that and see what happens.

If you did all that was advised above... somebody will have to take a look at it, otherwise it would be too difficult to guess.

Try clearing your browser's cache, or load your site through a proxy.
Maybe your provider cached your site (AOL?)

      ^^this

or if you have an ftp program (and you should) then go into the theme and clear it out or just rename the files, then go back in a pick another theme. If it still doesnt change, maybe your wp install is hosed?

NO AOL, no proxy, cleared cache & cookies. This blog is new and really doesn't have anything on it. So I think I will reinstall wordpress, but am unsure how.

Do I need to uninstall wordpress first and if so how to I go about it? I'm using C-panel.

Solved. The unwanted theme's index file has been uploaded to the root - replacing WP's "short and sweet" index.php file. As soon as it was removed and the original WP root index restored, the blog worked well.
