Paydot or my own affiliate software?

I know that paydot is reputable but....

I'd like to be in FULL control of my product that I have worked hard on for so long. I somehow don't feel 100% comfortable with tracking software on my site on anywhere near my paypal account.

If I purchase my own affiliate software and make an effort to actually speak to most or all of my affiliates, do I have a chance to succeed without a third party like paydot.

Thanks

You should not have a problem with your own program . The thing i like about pdc is the last product I published had 55 affiliates in less than 24 hours .

It helps that I already have a great rep for paying on time and giving my better affiliates little bonuses from time to time .

You have to remember I have a list I promote to first . They know I will pay them .

I don't know how many came from the list and how many from the market place ( I know I should have tracked just lazy ) . I do know one lady from England sold 12 for me the first day it was up and she came from the marketplace . Needless to say she got a little extra .

I have sold for other ppl on pdc and not been paid . It all comes down to your ethics . In my real world businesses I learned early on to delegate responsibility and pay those that take care of me well. It was just a natural transition when I started using affiliates online .

I also use ccbill on some things . Might check them out

    Troy,
How did you get affiliates to sell your product so quickly? I like PDC but the one thing that I don't like is that you have to have already sold it on PDC before it gets listed in their marketplace.

I set the product page up and although it cost me a little I promote the product to my list . The sales cost me a little fee to pdc but I am in the market place in less than 4 hours

I use my own program everytime because of the full control and ability to customize easily...

Using paydotcom or clickbank etc... may give you that edge because you can have ready affiliates.

However for me I get them anyway with my setup, and as Troy has pointed out reputation helps too.

Not sure about your full situation and your plans, so I would say stick with paydotcom and when you see the need to get your own system go for it

Use both and while you are at it, also use:

    ClickBank
    Regnow
    Esellerate

You just need specific order pages for each one.

    Now...

    I must admit...

    I don't use them all.

      Good advice.

I'll start off with paydot and see what happens.

IMO, you can get a lot more and better affiliates on your own. I use 1 Shopping Cart, which lets me set my affiliate program as I want. I give lifetime tracking, which has been a great incentive. Also, I can easily set up aff links to videos, etc and then it will track the prospect (and the referring affiliate's ID) through to a sale - whether the sale is then or later.

Kevin, why do you say you can get more and better affiliates on your own?

I have products on PDC and CB - neither impress me with the quality of affiliates, although I have a small handful of good CB affiliates promoting. With my own, I can actively recruit. Also, I have my own affiliate center, so I've added training, etc. My own affiliate software also allows me to easily send out e-mail to all my affiliates, motivating them and announcing new products for them to promote.

Lifetime cookies sounds good on the surface but is not that great for the affiliate .

Joe Blow sends someone to your site 3 years ago through a spam link. The customer is pissed off because the site was not relevant to the spammers link. They leave the site not interested . 3 years down the road I spend 3 or 4 emails warming this same customer up . They come to your site foaming at the mouth to buy , skip your sales page and go straight to the buy now link. Joe Blow spammer still gets the commission

Not if you police your affiliates. Pretty easy to delete a spammer from the system.

Kevin I have no doubt that you are a quality affiliate manager . Everything I have saw from you has been quality .

I can promise you that you are not the norm ... you are the exception . Most managers could care less where the traffic comes from as long as it is coming .
