JV Opportunity I'm Not Sure About

Hey everyone.

I love this forum, everyone seems to be so helpful so thought I would put my dilemma out there.

Quickly a bit about me. I have been a professional futures trader, my whole career but want a change, more freedom to travel and build a business. So have built a website with an ebook and videos showing pretty much exactly what I did to make money as a trader.

Its pretty much unique (know of only one other company selling something along the lines of what I am) and know all the other courses out there are useless.

The website is built and ready to go, but i'm new to marketing so here I am relying on other people to help me.

But, the company I used to trade for want to get into the trader education niche and want to partner with me. They want 51% of the company. Offering me no salary, are able to dilute me by putting capital in plus make me do most of the day to day grunt work (the course will need to be re-designed as i'm giving away a lot of their "secrets" at the moment and they want it to be more generic) which is months of writing and videos which I really don't want to have to do again.

Obviously none of this sounds very appealing. BUT to have a professional trading company endorsing what I am teaching is a huge marketing coup and they are really trying to sell me the dream of how big we can make it. But to be honest I just want to do this on my own. Running my own thing with no pressure from majority shareholders or people wanting instant results. That is made me want to get out of the coorporate world in the first place so 90% sure i'm gonna turn them down.

Do you think this is a mistake?

I can't tell you whether or not it is a mistake, but I would probably turn them down myself at 51%. They want controlling interest of YOUR project and you do all the work. That just doesn't sit well with me.

Thanks Suzanne, yeah i don't mind giving up a large stake if they take my product and run with it. But for me to do most of the work it seems like a bad deal. Plus when you go into a business with someone way wealthier than you they can put money in that I can't match which dilutes me. Its just so much more complicated. I'd like a JV if someone wanted 50% of what they sell through their company but I still own my company outright, that's cool.

The temptation is just there because proving you are an authentic marketer amongst all the wannabes that write generic info they have found elsewhere is tough without endorsements.

I've known a couple of people who did financial information sites that became hugely popular without a publicly traded company behind them because the info was real and valuable, so I know it's possible for you to bring the site to where you would like it to be and own 100% of it without a publicly traded corporation behind you owning your site.

My honest opinion : Leave this opportunity and stick with your business plan

If you are doing it honestly .nothing to fear .If you are new to marketing ,it's not a big problem

If you need any type of help ,i will help you out .(No legal support i can provide).

      Thanks

Thanks guys, your comments do make sense. Nothing is ever black and white and knowing every decision gives with one hand and takes with another means there is never really a 100% right thing to do
