Loss of direction with website

Any suggestions how or what I can do to take my website (Babblemouth | We love words) forward by way of monetising it perhaps?

Thanks in advance...

When I saw the description "We love words" I was about to suggest that you could do a free "Word of the day" email service, and get your traffic to subscribe for that, which you could have combined with some appropriately targeted literary/lexicographical/writing affiliate promotions (good market, that) ... but apparently not, looking at the site?!

    It must be babblemouth.co.uk ...

It has absolutely no targeting at all, but tries to be all things to all people, which is why it has no sense of direction and can't readily be monetized. Sorry, this probably sounds terribly rude, and I don't intend it that way at all!

But this type of site isn't a "business" at all, is it? There are subjects there from about 100 different niches? I don't begin to understand "who it's for"/"what it's for", at all? It's not even a "blog" ...

You could put some AdSense on it, which might cover its hosting-costs, I suppose ... but other than that it's far from clear what could be done with it.

Can you tell us what it is/was for, why it was started, and so on? Does it get any traffic? Where from? What are those visitors looking for? How are they targeted?

Can you tell us a little bit more about your website first, and the URL of course :-)

Truthfully in its present form I suggest that you will struggle to monetise the site due to its current lack of focus.

You really are covering a lot of ground from pregnancy to bad debt to toy reviews, its seems to me to be a big disconnect.

You can offer lots of things when they are connected so lets say bad debt. You could look at credit cards, bank accounts, loans and then even saving money on insurance products, how to shop online cheaper, using cashback site etc. Theses all appeal to the same pain that the visitor is having.

If you provide really good advice and content then they will be more receptive to then taking on board your recommendations when you promote an affiliate link.

You can apply this to any of the markets you have on the site, its harder though to target pregnant, bad debts, toy loving, seo optimising facebookers.

Its hard to be specific as to which way to go, so a couple of questions:

Are you getting traffic to the site?
    Where is this traffic landing?
Where is the traffic coming from?

This may help you focus if you have a ready made audience

    Hope this helps

I counted 14 different topics that this covers & looks like it would make it very difficult to target a specific audience. Most people will just go to the next site instead of searching for what they want.

The only thing I could recommend for this site is to slowly break it up into 14 individual niches and see how you do. Even with adsense you still need good traffic and targeted USA in order to make any decent money. If you do this you should start to get better results I would think

Thanks for the input, even the #harsh Alexa

Basically the site was a very active forum and blog for a few years (on another domain). I purchased it, only to realise that 1. The cms used was unworkable for someone with little html and css experience and 2. The forum, once it had lost it's owner/leader simply died. New face, lack of trust issues, etc.

I decided to grab all the blog posts I could and installed them on and re-directed to a new domain using wordpress as it can be seen in it's present state now.

Basically, all the blog posts were Mum, Parent, Child, Family related until i started using it to experiment with a couple of posts to see if i could get a keyword/keyphrase ranking on the site.

That's where i'm at now.....a bit of a jumble as you rightly point out.

Thanks for the comments, very useful and has confirmed that i'm clearly not going to reach millionaire status any time soon!
