Hi Warriors, I'd be grateful for your thoughts on what to write as my 'call to action' in the opt-in box. Im offering a free ebook relating to health/nutrition.

Im worried the topic of the ebook i made is slightly too niche to get a large number of opt-ins. Can i just have 'sign up for a free eBook' or is it quite essential to specify the topic?

I was also thinking of 'Sign up for a free eBook on (my topic) and other exclusive reports' - as I have other ebook/report pdf s to send out. Would this be better or not so good.

Thanks for any replies!

Try it both but do a split test. A/B testing, compare the output and of course use the high converting one.

Here are some simple guidelines for making your bait offer.

Using language like "download," "cheat sheet," "template," "free give away," works really well.

Make the benefit of downloading your ebook OBVIOUS. It should need no explanation.
"signup for a free ebook on XYZ" is too generic.
"download my ebook top 10 tips to lose 10 pounds this month" needs no explanation.

Make is small, simple, and blatant. Less is more.

A little more than that: it's essential to specify (and "prominently") the product's benefits.

And it's essential for the product you're offering in exchange for the opt-in to fulfil all the purposes mentioned in this post, otherwise you're devaluing your list even while you're building it.

It's about quality, not quantity. It should get the appropriate opt-ins for its subject-matter, which needs also be the subject-matter relevant to the traffic you attract and the subject-matter directly relevant to the intended monetization of your list. Otherwise you're missing out on targeting, and your income depends on accurate targeting.

Don't imagine that "the biggest list you can build from the traffic" will also be "the list that produces the most income it can from the traffic": that's almost never the case. It's not about subscriber numbers: it's about paying money into the bank. Subscriber numbers are vanity; profit is sanity.
