Music, Rock n Roll, what wakes you UP...

Using music for motivation, can be very effective, Rock music would seem to be
a good choice, however there are so many different levels of music.

Hard, Soft, even Hillbilly,

Personally I like the stuff that will wake the dead...

What kind of music do you like?

Check out the Sig for a tune, that some good friends of mine just recently performed.

Yes, I did the mix on this one. WARNING... this is LOUD, adjust your volume... you have been warned...

Okay, I may make a longer list later, but King Crimson is one of my favorites too.

Especially the albums The Court of the Crimson King, and Three of a Perfect Pair.

As a musician, I've grown up listening to music more for its technical aspects
than pure enjoyment, which in a way is kind of sad. Don't get me wrong.
There are a lot of songs that I do really love purely for the emotional impact
that they make. However, all too often I'll listen to a tune and remark, "Hmm,
that was a great use of Mixolydian. In the key of C, instead of going from
A to B you'd go from A to B flat before getting back to C. That is what makes
              it...

              Sorry, doing it again.

Point is, I love all kinds of music from rock to jazz to classical to experimental
to hitting pots and pans with different sized spoons. You'll be surprised the
many tones you can get out of that.

I'm sorry, what was the question again?

In addition to what was mentioned, anything by Aerosmith. And my recent discovery Nickleback.

Maybe not the same kind of metal, but I did mention EARLY Metallica. By that I meant their 1st three albums, after that they kind of wimped out in my opinion.

Metal is a very relative term. Next to Ministry (songs like NWO), Metallica is
                        like bubble gum.

Now that so many warriors have bared their musical souls, it might be interesting to point out this story which ran in Yahoo News yesterday regarding how one's musical taste is linked to one's personality:

Quote: A study by a psychology professor has found links between personality and music taste.

The Heriot-Watt university professor Adrian North said: "We have always suspected a link between music taste and personality. This is the first time that we've been able to look at it in real detail. No-one has ever done this on this scale before.

"People do actually define themselves through music and relate to other people through it but we haven't known in detail how music is connected to identity."

According to the study heavy metal fans are gentle, indie music listeners lack self-esteem and lovers of pop music are uncreative.

He found that country and western fans are hard-working, rap fans outgoing and jazz and classical music supporters are innovative and bursting with self-confidence.

Contrary to the stereotype, heavy metal fans are gentle and at ease with themselves but they tend not to be hardworking.

Those who listen to heavy metal and classical music share character traits of being creative, at ease and introverted.

But classical music fans have high self-esteem while heavy rock fans lack self-belief.

More than 36,000 people around the globe took part in the survey, the biggest of its type ever conducted.

They were asked to rate 104 musical styles in the study and were also questioned on aspects of their personality.
                          End quote

So it seems that all you metal fans are really just big pussycats :p

What do I wake up to? When I use my alarm clock, it is Keith Urban...

2 Songs come to mind, "Someboyd Like You" and "Raise the Barn". He just makes such upbeat music... I particularly like the banjo in the first song... and the theme of the second song... along with other aspects of the song.

Now that I think about it... Fire Woman by The Cult is a really good, get you going song I like.

As for what music do I listen to? Just about every genre imaginable. Everything from Country (both old and new) to classical music and classic rock, southern rock, pop, jazz, r and b, hip hop, celtic, etc.

It just really depends on what mood I am in.

The only music I don't like is that deat metal crap. I don't want to be screamed at. If I am on the highway... Metallica and AC/DC tends to put me in danger of getting a speeding ticket... the kind that gets your license taken away.

I couldn't possibly list every single singer or band or song I liked. It might crash the WF server.

As for that psycho babble post... due to all the types of music I listen to... it is possible I might be a basket case.

Very True Tim! And even the other way around too.

As a freelance muso, you are obliged to study and have detailed knowledge of virtually all styles of music and be able to perform them on call. The only way to do this is to listen to all styles and transcribe lines (learn the parts pertaining to the instrument you play)

Consequently, my music collection contains, Bach, Mingus, Steely Dan, Prince and quite a bit in-between and beyond.

I love the Eagles too, a Sig stands for a signature file that appears at the bottom of each post, (if you have a sig file) That music is really blasting, it is what I would call almost metal but not,
