Turn Crap Into Cash...

I have been working on a project and I have the urge
to fix it up a little bit more or make it just a little bit better and so on...

A few years ago when you were able to browse the archives
of the Warrior Forum freely, with out having to use archive.org,
I came across a few great threads and articles.

Some of the threads and articles on the old forum
still have value and and could bring insights to
anyone who is bold enough to discover them...

Some best threads written on the old warrior, in my opinion, were written by John Reese.

The thread in a nutshell : You can't make it to version 6.0 of your product if you never release version 1.0...

There is actually more to it, if you want read it I found the link
to the old warrior forum for you.

Wow that was some serious crap.

Honestly I cant stand guys like John Reece.

What a decrepit pile of you know what.

And you think this is good marketing?

He is sitting there telling you to sell crap to people and he is proud of it as if he is some genius.

It may not be illegal, but it's certainly immoral IMHO.

I don't really agree with his statement on launching a "crap" product and then tweaking it. Maybe make a product mockup and then tweak it until it's not crap, then launch it.. not the other way around.

As someone that was there at the time and took part in discussions about this article and other threads, I can tell you that he was using "crap" for the shock value. He never meant for anyone to put out crap in the literal sense of the word (instant refund garbage).

What he was trying to do was trying to help people to see that perfectionism is killing our businesses IF and WHEN we repeatedly delay getting started.

He was saying that NO MATTER how much time you spend editing and tweaking and fixing and improving that it STILL will need work so why not get a version 1.0 out there NOW with a promise and dedication to improving it and making the ongoing changes needed.

He was saying that on day one, if you have a commitment to true customer service and providing value, that that day and that product would be the crappiest day of the product. In other words it would only improve and grow from there.

There are people that have been here for years watching, reading, posting, studying, researching, etc. that don't have their 49 page ebook finished yet because it isn't perfect. Once they launch it they will remember something they forgot to put in or other ideas will come to them that they can add to version 2.

Microsoft is a good example of this (along with every other IT company). They get something out there, something going, something started that is basically done/ready/ok but perhaps not perfect and then they keep working on it and improving it either through bug fixes, updates, improvements, or new versions.

Gmail, which many people love, was in beta version for 5 years even though people, including me and many here were using it daily. Beta means it wasn't ready yet. It had bugs. It had missing features. All the infrastructure wasn't in place.

That article and discussion helped a lot of people back then including yours truly. My thanks go out to John Reese for his insight and advice.

    Mark
