Need help with a subscription site

So I have this site. It's not much, but it's finally been getting some decent organic traffic. Long story - I'm not worried about traffic and I'm not worried about the plan itself.

Talking with my audience and stuff, it came out that the best way to monetize this site would be with a course. My audience is fine with paying $20 a month, but they won't pay $200 for a one-year course. They WANT the course, and I've got about a dozen people who've emailed me to ask for the course.

So my site is WordPress and everything's been working fine, but I need a way to do a subscription site. I want to do subscriptions that include a forum and some drip content. I tried Paid Memberships Pro with BB Press and it crashed my site (even though it was SUPPOSED to work together!). What would you recommend for a membership site with drip courses and a forum?

My requirements: Must integrate with WordPress, and I'm broke. I need it free or close to free. If I could set it up so that I could pay a monthly subscription instead of a one-time fee, that would be better. I can probably scrounge up $20 (especially since I've already got several people that will give it right back to me!), but I can't come up with $100 or more.

For membership site, try wp plugins. There are a lot of decent ones out there for instance wp profit builder. But you won't get them for free.

A forum is an altogether different stuff. Don't know why you need one. But you can create one, that is not an issue.

If I did it manually, I wonder how hard it would be to automate it in the future? At this point, I could do it manually - send an email link or embed a PayPal subscription thing on my site, then manually add users and set user levels. Drip content could be automated through AWeber. It would be a pain in the butt, but at this point I'll probably only have less than 20 new signups a month, so manual could work just fine. But then how hard would it be to automate the system later on?

Doing it manually does not seem to be a pain at all. I am doing the same exact thing manually in a couple niches.

If you are OK sharing a small portion of your profit with someone else then try JVzoo and let them handle the subscription for you.

Else, use a membership wp plugin.

Or, do it manually. It is not really hard. You just have to setup things once, then it is pretty fine. Paypal and your autoresponder will do the rest. In case of a membership site, you will still go through this process of setting up your autoresponder and setting payments.
