This "Sentence" Increased My Sales 28% OMG

hello warriors and warrioresses..

I had to share this with you today! I want to show you how I increased sales even though my niche is unrelated to things that do well during recessions and I only used 1 sentence near my "pay now" WOW this works like magic fairy dust...i was so amazed...

just goes to show you that you must test, test...then test some more!!

Ok anyway I had the idea that the economy is dud, so people are struggling but probably still want my product right? well I gave them another option to pay...

I put a text like like this "- Times are tough - CLICK HERE " and that takes them to a page with an instant 20 % off...or the option to pay off this month by month. To make it a bit easier.

WHAMMO...as soon as I put this up on my page an increase of about 28.4%. Who would have thought.

Just thought you would like this, it really does work for me. Feel free to test it out yourself.

    Nice.

Although, sorry to point this out, but if you drop your prices by 20% and increase sales by 28%, that's just an 8% increase?

Or did you start out with a higher price?

Starting with a higher price and then using this technique would be more suitable instead of dropping the original price as it may raise some eyebrows but again it really depends upon the niche, product and starting price and overall strategy behind it. It is a good idea though and shows the worth of split testing.

      Hi Sam,

One thing's for sure - your maths are off.

Some things aren't for sure, such as -

Does 'increased sales by 28%' relate to a 28% increase in sales revenue, or increase in number of products sold?

If we use 'products sold' -

      Before -

      100 sales @ $100 = $10000

      After -

      Discounted price = $80

      Increased sales = 128

      128 x $80 = $10240

Which looks like an increase in revenue of 2.4%, as long as we assume no increased cost of production due to increased sales (IE zero product production cost, as in a pdf with sales machine already in place and no added costs such as extra subscriber maintenance costs, cost of aquiring extra traffic etc).

But even that might be wrong. Anyone got a bean counter handy?

This is why conversion rate and the value of the automated back end (once someone is in the funnel) are so crucial. But if your point was 'applauding increased sales via a discount without considering and analysing everything else, is not wise', then I would agree.

Great tip to put that on your homepage by the order button. It kinda reminds me of the exit pops that give you a chat box and offers a discount when you try to leave the site.

Nice to see someone is thinking.

With my love for math this is the first thing I do.

The other variable in this is the option to pay monthly. Some that take this option might back out before all the payments are made. If that was the case you could really end up losing money.

Agree with you Sully, testing is so important and small tweeks like single sentences or words can make a huge difference to your overall results.

Thanks for sharing the tip. I think people in the current climate are still inclined to but but may need a of reassurance. The bug to buy is still kicking but they need a little friendly push.

Excellent, thanks I just love these tested ideas people share. I'm definately going to test how it works in some sites where it fits. Everybody remember to test, test, test and not just blindly put it there because it worked for somebody in the forum Your milage may very so to speak.

This type of call to action is talked about in most direct marketing

I was surprised to see how many people have not thought of this.

Go buy some respected books on copywriting or direct marketing to
make sure you are not missing out on other basic stuff. (a book for
$8 on Amazon can really guide you to increasing sales.)

I am with ExRat on the uncertainty on what the 28% is. Again that is
      fairly basic marketing knowledge.

I am glad to hear of the increase and I am glad you posted this so I
      could touch on this subject.
You don't "come off as an ass" at least to me but you are forgetting the fact that some people are just not made for copywriting. It doesn't matter how many books you read, you may have the knowledge but you suck at using it to create something. But these people might be brilliant in some other field.

These tips are really great for them because they can test those and if they work, maybe get some ideas and test so more.

Luckily I don't have troubles coming up with things to tests but I know a lot of people that are never going to be very good at copywriting.

Did you track the offers individually or as a set. Which had better conversions your 20% off or your payment plan. I'd venture to say the payment plan is what increased your sales. That's why marketers always try to show the lowest possible price to the customer. ONLY 3 PAYMENTS OF $19.99!

Thanks for the post. It's good to be reminded of the millions of things we've forgotten about marketing.
