Cold Calling Business - WhoTo Speak With?

When I am calling locally owned businesses should I ask to speak with the Manager? Or ask if they have a sales and marketing department?

Thats one of my biggest fears, how do i get through to the correct person to speak with... Any tips?

Thanks!

It depends on the hierarchy, of course, but generally you should aim to speak to the owner, in the case of a small business like a shop, or whoever is available who resides on the highest rung. Inspect their website, if they have one, and ask to speak to the person by name.

I have had a number of years experience in Cold Calling. I did it all. From Solid Waste Disposal Services to Yellow Page Advertising to Fund Raising.

It is very difficult. But to those who master it, Cold Calling can be hugely profitable.

There are several approaches. I would definitely ask for the Owner. That is who you need to really talk to.If they do put you off then ask if there is a specific time you could call back and talk to the owner.

Finally, if that is getting you nowhere I have found that by asking for a Fax number and actually getting them something on hard copy can do the trick as far as getting to a communicable level with the decision maker.

      Just follow up.

Cold calling and persistence go hand and hand. Be prepared to get about 50 Nos before you get a Yes

  • Exactly
It depends on who makes the decision. Sometimes, managers alone can make the majority of the decisions, but getting to them is tough depending on who they are and how the business decides who does what. I would recommend just trying to speak with the person in charge of their marketing. Usually that gets people interested.

Don't be afraid to speak with the owner if you ever get the chance to do that.

Perfect! Thanks for all the feedback!

How many calls do you normally make in a day? 100?

    Thanks

If you go to manta.com it tells you number of employees, year established and will list owner's name as well as other information.
