Hi Folks! Happy Wednesday!

With all the good, bad and indifferent information floating around about the whole IM universe, I was hoping you might share what you think the top myths in this space are and if you care to elaborate please bust the myth too!

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by that. However, if a person keeps taking action, then success is inevitable. (That isn't to say that they won't experience some "failure" etc. however they will eventually succeed.)

I have not heard anyone say hang in there long enough and will eventually make money...
Then you haven't been around here very long. The mantra of "just never ever quit" is alive and well....the "anyone can do it if they just take action" isn't far behind.

....and then there are those who decide IM looks easier than a job....

          I'm curious, Kay.

Why don't you think anyone can be successful at IM providing that they keep working?

Kay has already answered but if you believe that then surely the success rate should be much higher?

Respectfully, I disagree Kay. I hear what you're saying however I think that absolutely anyone can be successful at IM. As Tony Robbins said: "The past doesn't equal the future." And, just because someone hasn't been successful yet doesn't mean that they can't succeed.

The success rate would be higher if people followed my advice and kept taking action (and learning from "failure") until they were successful.

Get a list of tens of thousands and you'll be making at least $1 for each subscriber.

Someone can have a list of 100,000 and not build a relationship with them, monetize that list properly and another person can have a list of 5,000 and be making a ton more money.

That is true. But there is no such myth that if you take action, everything will work out. There is however a saying that if you want to succeed then you HAVE to take massive action. I mean how else can results be produced without one taking action right?

As long as Tom, Dick or Harry have hands, brains and common sense. I don't see how they are limited to NOT making money. Unless you can prove to me that making money online requires advance talented powers. I'm sure any average person can make money online if the really want to. Worse comes to worst just place a service on Fiverr for $5 to build a whole sales funnel. Overworked? For sure! Make money? Of course.

Again, I have not heard anyone say hang in there long enough and will eventually make money...

I do know that you need to hang in there if you really want to make money. In other words, don't give up. It's a fact that most successful marketers today have failed miserably at the start. if they didn't "hang on long enough" do you think they will be where they are right now?

Again, you're just being funny with these myths now. No one ever says if you have the right mindset you are guaranteed to make money online. However, if you DON'T have the right mindset, you are most definitely going to fail.

It's true that $1 per subscriber is a load of crap. That being said, if the quality of the leads are the same, I'll take 100,000 leads anyday. I reckon even if I emailed that list 5 times a day in French and have 3-4 affiliate links inside the copy. I'll still be making more money than the person with 5,000 leads.

        Myth:
Avoid saturated markets. You can't make money in a saturated market.

        The Truth:
You can make money in a niche ... in a saturated market. (That's what niches do best)
The only exception is if there are ...

        • No more unmet customer needs!
        • No more problems to solve!
        • No more customer irritations to relieve!
        • No more new needs to address!
        • No new customers to seek!
        • No more inconveniences to fill!
        • No new angles to implement!
        • No new creative ideas for products or services!
        • No more joint ventures to seek!

I would have to say the top myth for me is "that it is easy." Making money online is a process & you have to be willing to put in alot of time in order to build it up. I know that I have put in a ton of hours online when I wasn't being paid & even lost money at it. You really have to have a strong mentality in order to fall down, get ran over a few times, pick yourself up, learn what works & "shine"

I would have to agree with "The Niche Man" about saturated markets... There's PLENTY of money to go around for everyone...

Also, the myth that you need to have a reputation and a following BEFORE you can start getting results in areas such as product creation, etc. is something that holds a lot of people back from "getting out there" and launching their 1st product/ebook/whatever...

You must remember: We ALL had to start somewhere!

One of the biggest myths that plague freelancers who are working online is that you must start out with a cheap price in order to build a big portfolio and somehow this will translate into more business later. Let's clear one thing up, those cheap customers will always be cheap and no one who paid $1.00 or $5.00 will ever agree to pay you $100 or $1000 next time.

You have to know your worth and have samples to back up your work quality.

However, you don't need to work for free or cheap to build your portfolio.

You will always get a higher quality of customer to work with, who is not super picky on details if they are paying more. Just so long as you can actually provide the quality services you have promised, you will earn money.

The modern linkbait that you're talking about here is the infographic and those get lots of link backs and reshares. Most times, people will link to the original page where an infographic was found in exchange for the right to use that image on their own site.

It is easier to make money online then it is at a job.

For many people that is not true because they do not have Internet marketing skills. I wonder what % of people actually make money online in the various business models i.e. affiliate marketing, MLM, email marketing, blogging, etc.

It is hard and you better be prepared to work at it just as hard as you do at a job. At least at first anyway.

    1. Overnight Success - Most people who are a so-called "overnight success" actually spent months or years going through trial and error before they finally had a breakthrough.

    2. You need money to make money - That is just an excuse to wait until you have money to start an online business.

    3. Creating an income a substantial online without working on your mindset - Most people need to make some mindset shifts and develop some self-discipline before they will ever achieve their financial goals.

Why don't you think anyone can be successful at IM providing that they keep working?
Because there's more to success than "keep working". There are people who can't hold a regular job due to temperament or inability to focus or inability to learn what needs to be done. I think most people can earn something online - but when people talk "success" they are usually talking at least enough money to be self supporting.

Very seriously - if you watch this forum you'll see a few people who ask the same questions over and over - year after year. They don't "get" the answers, they don't understand the process and some never will.

It's not what people want to hear - but IM isn't for everyone and not everyone has the ability to be successful online.

Another Big Myth: BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME

Many people have a simplistic idea of syndication and it flows from this mindset. Plus, the whole concept of 'turnkey' and 'automated' online money machine solutions flow from here. Sure, 'build it and they will come' works for 'Field of Dreams' but it doesn't work in today's INTERNET landscape. Still, people fall for it again and again.

You have to focus on ACTIVE traffic generation to make it in this game. The only people who claim otherwise often don't have verifiable evidence to back up their claims.

One of the biggest myths about making money is that you have to work hard and long. (Don't get me wrong, you definitely do have to do some work, however is it "hard?") I suppose it's relative and depends on your definition.

(Working smart is equally important IMO.)

The reason why people say you have to work hard is because they had to go through a lot of trial and error to find something that works for them. If they were to have known what works to begin with, they wouldn't have had to invest so much time etc.

I like this quotation from Napoleon Hill:

When riches begin to come they come so quickly, in such great abundance, that one wonders where they have been hiding all those lean years.

This is an astounding statement, and the more so, when we take into consideration the popular belief, that riches come only to those who work hard and long. When you begin to Think And Grow Rich, you will observe that riches begin with a state of mind, with definiteness of purpose, with little or no hard work.

    One of the Biggest Myths...

You can NOT Succeed because of some limiting bull shit that you may be telling yourself.

I've seen a waitress in small town USA where a $200 paycheck was what she was used to come into IM and make over $20K in one month.

I've seen a burn't out RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sergeant / Federal Police officer in Canada) come into this industry, leave an 80K job and make over $300K per year.

This guy even drove down to Montreal from Vancouver and bought his mom a brand new car - something that he was incapable of doing with his cop job.

I've seen an 'Active Duty' US soldier make her first $15K in her first 3 months with no previous Online experience (while her based was experiencing bombing attacks in Afghanistan).

    How did they do this?

By not falling for B.S. Excuses that they heard in their minds.

Great post. Thanks Rory. : )

My younger Brother dabbled with IM for a couple of months or so and is now making a six figure income with SEO.

(It's a lot easier IMO to make good money being an Entrepreneur compared to anything else.)

Most of the time, what people fail to understand is that success is not just about the systems and the strategies and IM structures. Yes you may understand all of that and have a concrete system to follow but if you don't believe in yourself which will happen sooner or later when things get rough and apply what you've learned, you will just continue the quest of Tai Lung looking for the Dragon Scroll and more power without realizing the power that you already possess.

    Wooooot!

I just want to be like Po, and work my butt off trying to be a Dragon Warrior...

You still need to get direct permission if you are planning to use Content from someone else.

You just cannot decide you like someone's material then use it and try to justify using it by simply putting a backlink to that material.

That would be Stealing if you did not attain permission first.

I dont think everything in Clickbank is a scam. Some of the stuff there is outdated though if you ask me and some can be found online easily. what makes me wonder though is why would a product creator give away 80% or more in some instances to affiliates? much of a loss if you ask me but then again they may be building an email list on the side for future "blasts" so that makes sense.

That the internet is a magic ATM machine that spits out money. In reality an online business is still a business, and should be treated the same as if it were an offline business. If you treat it like a hobby, or you're constantly chasing after magic pills, you're not likely to get good results.

I would say one of the biggest myths is "It's hard to make money online"

No it's not, and you don't need a coach to succeed even if it can help things a lot.

What is hard is to figure out how to do things the right way and then being consistent about it. It's like anything in life. It's easy if you know how to :-)
