I honestly think that the greatest reason why most IM-era fail to convert their freebie-seeking list into paying customers is because at the initial phase they over-promised and under-delivered.

If your pre-marketing is done right, and when you can afford to under-promise and over deliver, there is no reason for your traffic to not pull out their wallets and spend a few dollars on your products/services.

Stop over-promising and start over-delivering.

Here's to your first earnings online, happy marketing!

Well said. And yet, we see this all the time. If someone over delivers on a product I've purchased, I will buy more from them without batting an eye. If someone under delivers, I will never buy from them again. It is short term thinking. To be successful in the long haul, you need to look at the bigger picture.

So true, people tend to forget that in everything they do, they're branding themselves.

It's always nice to give more than what you take. Marketers exist to help "solve" problems right? that is why we exist, we help people find solutions to their problems.

If everyone will take that in mind, it will make a big difference in the whole industry.

Excellent advice. The thing is over promise gets you clients faster, but what many don't realize is that is the perfect recipe for short term and somewhat volatile business.

No now know one wants a volatile business. That's a scary feeling.

  • Many of the WSO's people buy don't stress enough how important that free giveaway really is that the customer gets. Giving away an outdated PLR item to a new subscriber is not building up credibility at all.

The first contact is very important and overlooked by many.

Like your title but know exactly what you mean, as most ads sound pretty much like this & I've yet to find one that does that. That being said, there are no perfect products out there but if you are honest with people & even tell them the pros and cons of your product, they are much more willing to buy it

I was talking with a friend of mine about how you must think about what you can offer to some somebody else and THEN about money.

The response was the same: If he doesn't know how to it, then charge him!!! (and he continues with a crazy price just because he does not know something)

If you treat people like objects, people will know. No one deserves to be sold, unless the value he's getting is worth to be sold.

    Benefits sell, not fake features.

Just my 2c, and of course I agree with the OP

      Yep. It is true.

Of course this has been talked about over and over again in here.

But I guess it is good because some people just cant seem to ingrain it in their heads

Do you send misleading subjects to your list like you do to this forum?

This thread is a perfect example. The subject had nothing to do with what you posted.

You have such a similar pattern in all your posts that now when I see your avatar I know it won't be worth reading the post.

Is that the relationship you are building with your list?

I agree if you over delivery on your promise you are good in my book. I dislike when stuff is hyped up and yet does not deliver on what was promised.

'Over-delivering' as a marketing philosophy is right. But I think it would be beneficial to see terms like 'brevity', 'concise' and 'succinct' accompanying it. It's one crime to toss in some dodgy PLR, and IMO it's another to dump the subscriber with a folder full of PDFs and videos.

I know many love the 'thud factor', but I don't trust people's attention spans. Give them something short and actionable and original, backed by evidence, and you'll have them on the hook.

    I agree!!

When you over deliver in value - people will trust you a lot more if you didn't.

Value and knowledge is what runs the internet. People come online to learn the right knowledge, the right information. Just over deliver here and the rest should follow naturally!

    Great topic!

    Keep up the great work!!

I wish you the best of the best!

    Cheers!

Totally agree if you want to make money in the long run.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9724102].message }}
  • Exactly. People become longer lasting customers when you over-deliver and give people exactly what they asked for, or what you promised them. Over promising is definitely a common problem among product creators, but as long as they over-deliver and bring what they promise, that's completely fine.

I agree, when people value their freebie it needs to line up with its quality. I think a lot of people forget that they are anchoring the customer and they will judge your future sales based on the information they have at hand. If your freebie is some rehashed outdated rubbish and you proclaim it has a value of 997 (cos it has to end in 7) you are onto a loser for the rest of the follow up campaign.

Amongst other features your freebie is there to build credibility and integrity.

EXACTLY. I don't understand the point of making promises you can't keep. This is the problem with MOST people in the internet marketing community. It may have worked back in 2008, but as marketers we need to constantly adapt.

I think the biggest problems for beginners is they're taking advice from other beginners, who probably just rehashed one of the million useless WSO's out there.

Build a business the right way and it will last years to come.
