Is marketing just one big conspiracy theory?

Yes, you read that right there are people who claim that suggesting a company has a PR department who will do marketing stunts in order to gain promotion for their product is a "conspiracy theory".

These aren't stupid people saying this either, well some are, but they seem to want to genuinely believe the story that hear on the news or read in the paper should be taken at 100% face value and to suggest otherwise is an act of absolutely insanity!

Two examples:

#1 - I remember reading in a comment section was related to the release of the Nexus 4 phone. There was suddenly a shortage just prior to launch and, understandably, some suggested it was, or could have been, a marketing move. Creating scarcity, hoping for viral hype, etc, etc. Then the "conspiracy theory" comments started and, obviously, derailed the article.

#2 - Colchester Zoo, UK. Fake lion sighting in Essex. HUGE publicity for the Zoo on all major news networks. No lion was found.

Neither, of course, were a conspiracy theory but, most likely good PR departments, the term is being thrown around for anything and everything nowadays.

            This is NOT the grassy knoll JFK conspiracy theory.

            Far from it. Just Companies that do 'hype' Marketing to introduce a Product or get some buzz going on about a Product.

    Absolutely, at it's core - marketing is ATTENTION!

    Good marketing is targeted attention.

    Conspiracy, vs, something is "dead", controversial - you name it - anything to get that attention.

    Take a look at any newspaper and how the headlines are formatted to get you to read...

    Fear is a HUGE motivator.

    Everyone is vying for your attention - look at how many ads are on TV, etc...

    So marketing STARTS with attention.

    To hold the attention is where the skills comes in...

    That was a real lion, not a fake one.

    Mr Furry is alive and well and now living down the road in Chelmsford, and still roaring away: he just doesn't go out during daylight as much as he used to, in case he frightens the local children.

    I would say no.

    Now let me back up a little...

    Not all advertising is created equal. There are definitely advertising sites/tools out there that do work, with stand up people ready to assist others with value information to share.

    There are also marketing websites/methods/people that offer little to no value, and some outright scams as well.

    What I did when I was first starting to work from home was invest a few thousand dollars testing and evaluating a whole heap of programs and ad sites. If something proved to be profitable on any level I kept going with it, if it was bunk then I ditched it.

    The formula I followed was expensive yes, but it provided valuable information that I have built upon until this very day.

    I hope my response answered your question on some level. My 2 cents.
