Free Report ideas for my Thailand budget travel blog please

Hi there,

I'm building a travel blog with the main focus being "thailand budget travel" I write about how it doesn't have to be expensive to travel to thailand and give specific money saving tips..

I'm going to get a Free Report written by somebody from Elance as a bribe for their email addresses but am stuck for ideas to be honest..

I'm finding that most travel blogs tend to simply ask for their email address so as to receive blog updates. I feel that just receiving blog updates is not a good enough bribe so to speak. I'm sure you'll agree..

Could anybody give me some ideas for a free report please ?

Cheers

How about something like (you could probably avoid elance by asking the question on quora.com and rewriting or quoting the answers) -
    • How to live in Thailand for $150 a month
    • 10 Thai customs you MUST know before arriving
    • 5 inside tips from long term travellers in Thailand
    • 100 Thai words every traveller should know

    ETC, ETC

  • You could definitely create a list of DO's and DON'Ts about the culture.

You could create a report about the top 10 things you must see while traveling in Thailand for under $50

Also you could write a report about the top 15 fruits you must eat that are not available in the USA

The top 7 places you shouldn't travel to alone in Thailand

The best 5 places to hangout in Thailand after dark

The typical day for budget seeking Ex-Pats in Thailand

The top 23 biggest mistakes westerners make when first coming to Thailand . . .

I can go all day with some cool ideas, but for now I hope that wets your whistle a little.

    All the best,
    Michael

I like that suggestion about mistakes foreigners made when visiting Thailand. It's a good scare tactic, people who interested to visit Thailand in near future will feel that information is necessary.

And you yourself is a foreigner who live in Thailand, that would be perfect

I've spent a bit of time in Thailand the last 6 years or so. While I'm not normally following the budget travel circuit, I certainly know people that are and that would be interested in this.

Check out JohnnyFD's blog for content ideas about living (and working) in Thailand.

since you're specifically talking about budget travel, why not write up an itinerary for an amazing 3 month journey through Thailand. (Fitting, since that's the current tourist visa) It could include write-ups on places to stay, things to do in each place, etc.

Make it personable. Inject some of your personality and experiences into the book. Don't write yet ANOTHER Thailand travel guide...tailor it around your individual personality. Link back to your own blog for more details about specific places, things to see, etc.

Most travel blogs probably don't do well, so copying what they do isn't the solution.

Anyway, remember that the free PDF isn't just a "bribe" that you write just to have an excuse to get people's emails. The free PDF is a link in the chain, i.e. sales funnel chain. It's the next step after people sign up, and the one before they receive any of your emails. This means:

    a) You need to present yourself in it. Some people won't read the "About me" page before they subscribe, and if you want people to await and open your emails (and buy your products), then you need to be show them you're the person they can relate to.

    b) You need to set the expectations for future emails. Here you say how often they'll receive emails from you, what they'll include and the fact that you'll also promote products (if that's what you do to monetize the list).

    c) You need to disclose the fact that you're an affiliate, or whatever is that you do to make money. People like openness and honesty, just like you probably do.

    d) Give them very good information. The last thing you want is your free PDF to be about something they can easily find on someplace else. That's not a great way to impress them and make them wait for your emails, is it?

I think that nobody on Elance will do this for you (because they have no idea), so it's up to you to do it. And isn't the writer supposed to come up with some ideas?

Regarding emails, you're right: blog updates won't cut it. That's not a benefit strong enough to enter their email address and wait for the emails. You need to provide them with content they haven't seen on your website, even if just partially.

Just make sure that it serves ALL the purposes explained here, otherwise you're devaluing the list even while you're building it, and you won't get either the open-rates or "attention-rates" that you'd like to get, for the email series. These are the things the money depends on.

    Hello John
You dont say if you have ever been to Thailand before but in my opinion the best way to give the best content for that type of blog is to actually experience the things you want to write about. If you just want to get info from the web then maybe JC's Retirecheap. Asia is a good place to start.
