I say no, but I guess it would all depend on what type of work ethic a person has and how determined they are to succeed with IM.

It all depends on your existing skill sets/experience and your goals. It's easy to say to learn from your mistakes and that's what many people do (I did that when I started out too), but if you want results right away and know less than 50% of what you are required to know a good coach can help you.

You can either pay a coach for results or you can lose money trying to figure out things. It all boils down to what results you want at the end of the day and how quickly you want them.

      He is right.

There are two options to succeed the internet marketing / online business:

      1. Trial and error. You do many experiments yourself. Maybe you need to speed many months until you find a working technique for youself.

      2. Pay a mentor to coach you. Cost depends on how famous and expertise level of the coach.

One of the reason for me personally why people look for a mentor or coach is because either they have tried to do things by themselves before and failed and because of that they want to cut the chase by having a coach to guide them.

The other reason could be becuase they want to save time and headache in the first place and want to get the results fast.

Another one is because they somehow understand that having a coach is a great way to expand their connections that will give them the support that they need to scale their business, they are also aware that most Coaching Programs also have their own community that help each other reach a common goal.

    ----

It really depends on the person, we all learn in different ways, there are people who learn more by doing things themselves, there are others who learn more when there is someone who holds their hand in the process.

It really depends but having a coach is a great thing, just pick the right one. and TAKE ACTION.

There is no assurance on your success when you don't take a step forward.

a coach really is someone who will make sure that you are doing the things that you should be doing.

    In my opinion: it depends.

When I began a little over two decades ago, you had no coaches. I learned the necessaries by purchasing books on subjects like HTML and web design and my first experience of IM came while I was working at a hotel in my spare time at university. Two marketers approached the hotel about the hotel's possible inclusion in a local web directory, and knowing my way around both web design and the internet, I was asked to hold the meeting.

Getting into affiliate marketing, my first area of IM after initially enjoying a successful stint in local web design, was engineered in similar fashion. I scoured the net for information; I absorbed it; I took action. I repeated this process - learning, implementing - for each new area that plonked onto my radar and I became good, known in certain circles. As the years flipped by, more information became available: software, eBooks, courses, mastermind groups, forums, offline conventions. Utilizing them soon became a necessary part of business. The world was moving. Moving fast. My foothold in certain niches was under threat; in some, downright eroding at the speed of light. Kids (no more than 18 or 19) where arriving, just like I had once arrived, and buying a domain, a script, renting a server, and 18 months later posting pictures of their sport cars and toys. Sponsors (as we called them; not CPA affiliate networks), who had once sent cars as gifts to some of the veterans, now had a massive influx of new blood, new blood and new traffic. It was, in short, vital that I stay on top of knowledge.

To this day I've never paid for a coach or a mentor. In my case, and without bragging, there simply is no need. In the areas that interest me, there is no coach available who knows as much or more. My coach, you see, has been constant education beyond coaching: offline and online networking, trial and error, experimentation, experience, eBooks, courses, software (software teaches you a lot, by the way), and so on and so on and so on. The point is: I do get coached; but not by any one person; I get coached by myself and via the mentioned resources. A sort of coaching, if you like.

Back to the question at hand: Do you need coaching?

I believe the typical person entering IM in 2014 can indeed benefit from coaching. Looking back on my own IM career I would have loved - loved, loved, loved, loved, loved - certain people, known people, to coach me. I didn't think to ask. Didn't even consider the concept of coaching. Instead, these people became friends, and often through friendship I taught them a thing or two, and likewise I learned from them. But, oh boy, could I have benefited. It would have saved me time and money, that's for sure. The typical person entering IM has limited resources and limited experience and knowledge of how to spend those resources. That person will benefit from a coach. There is no question. Full freaking stop.

Is it always necessary? No! Look - information about an online business model usually follows this pattern:

    1. Free info leads to you implementing a model pretty well.
    2. Paid Info leads to you implementing a model better than most.
    3. Experience and creativity and luck usually leads to you coming out on top.

In many areas of IM, all of the information is freely available. In other words you can skip (2). But in some - you need (2). And quite often the best way is for a coach to take you by the virtual hand and say this:

Look, this is how I do it. It works for me. We're going to get you doing it the same way, and let's try and make it work for you, too.

I voted "no" because someone doesn't "need" a coach to succeed. They just need a coach to make things happen faster.

When I started online 8 years ago I was fortunate enough to have someone very close to me show me the ropes...and I'll forever be grateful for it! Often I would feel like an idiot because they would show me things that were so obvious but because I didn't have a deep understanding of how things worked online, I just didn't see it the same way until it was pointed out.

Other things too, for example, if you're doing something the "hard" way, there is a good chance they know how to do it faster or automate it. Someone who has been around for a while also knows a lot more tools, resources and people than someone who hasn't and that alone can be worth it in the time saved or people you connect with.

So, do you "need" a coach to succeed? No.

Will a coach help you do it faster? Yes....as long as you're willing to apply the information they give you.

You don't need a coach to be successful with internet marketing. I like to think of having an internet marketing coach in the same light as having a coach in sports. In order for you to be successful you still need to have a great work ethic, the ability to focus, and the drive to persevere (whether you have a coach or not).

A coach will help you achieve your goals faster, because with the help of a coach you won't have to wonder if what you're doing is right or spend months or years going through trial and error. A coach will point you in the right direction and it's up to you to take action on his/her advice.

Do the things yourself. The more mistake you will make the more you will learn. Just experience everything yourself. Don't rely on coaching programs and spent thousands of dollars and you have learn zero.

There is plenty of information that you can attain on your own without a Coach.

But there can be benefits for Coaching. It can definitely cut down the time it takes you to learn IM.

And most Coaches have a concise Plan all in one convenient location for you to access at a cost.

For many that Cost is worth it

i don't think you need a coach, but I see no harm in getting a coach. You are more likely to not have to experience the trial and error and instead having someone tell what to do.

If it wasn't for my coach I wouldn't be where I am today. There's a lot you can learn by yourself (assuming you're implementing and learning from that). However... looking up to those more successful than yourself, is worth every bit of time and investment.

Nothing is free. Even if the information is, you're still spending your own time to implement it, and learn from mistakes. In most cases, and Internet Marketing coach has already gone through a lot of hardship, and can show you what's working currently for them.

It's always going to be a learning curve in this industry, but for me personally... I haven't been happier since making the choice to work with the right coach.

I don't think you "need" a coach, but I do believe it can certainly help.
That being said, it is definitely important to choose the right coach for you as not all coaches are created equal.
I believe that having a mastermind of people to help is very beneficial as IM can get quite lonely at times and it is great to have people that understand what you are trying to achieve and that you can bounce ideas off.
I have a great coach and I must say, he has helped me tremendously and I am very greateful to him.

It is a good idea to have a coach. You will be helped by someone
      who is already successful.

Is it possible to succeed without a coach? Yes, but it is not easy.
