Unconventional request

Hey guys... here's a bit of Internet Marketing advice that I need...

I live in Australia and I'm entering my dog into a competition to become the next face of Advantage - which is a flea treatment...

The prize is simply that they'll put his picture on the box, I don't get any money for it, and neither does he.

"It's all about getting noticed! Just like an election, you will need to campaign for your pet, raise your pets public profile and grab the judges attention."

So, the way that he can win is by getting people to vote for him - so I have to create a promotional campaign that will give him as much exposure as possible - obviously this is perfect for an internet marketing campaign!

So... this is where I need some help - what are your suggestions for the best possible ways to get the most exposure for my dog, and get him into the running to win this thing? (and if you could click the link to give him a vote, that would be great too...!)

Find blogs from pet owners and do a blog tour. Rose and Kate, my four legged companions have their own dogs blog. They would be happy to have a guest blogger.

Post comments on other people's pet blogs with a link to your dog's website using keywords that make sense.

Find dog related forums and start posting asking for votes.

Post on dog related squidoo lenses asking for votes.

compile a short report on prevention of flea and tick problems. Set it up that the person has to vote for your dog to get the report.

Do some video, and if you don't have a camera do a picture slideshow. Submit the video and be sure to properly campaign "vote Sirius" with the link to the voting site.

Comment on some pet blogs linking back to your videos

Start a free wordpress blog for your dog - you aren't selling anything so you should be fine.

Make a Weebly page, a blogger blog, squidoo, hub page and use titles like "vote sirius" or "Advantage is for Sirius pets" or something - use the great name of your dog to your advantage.

I agree with everything said so far. Now, take it a step further also.

Make a video and start Tweeting it. Ask people to "please vote for my cute dog", or something that will make people check it out. Name the video as "Vote for Sirius at (whatever the name of the site is)". Post the video as a video response on high traffic Youtube videos in the same field. Bookmark both web addresses, the video and also the response. Submit it to multiple video sites. That will give you good search rankings and if enough buzz circles around it, it should get to Google first page fairly quickly.

The reason you want to include the site name is, when people do a search for that site, your video should show up. Remember to include it in your title and description.

At the same time, create a blog on Wordpress or Blogger, give it the exact same name and post the video on it with an article asking people to vote. Link this to your video. Also, post a link to your blog on your video page, under your sign up info. Then, bookmark all pages using a bookmarking directory. Include the video urls and also the blog url. Now ping all urls to all pages used.

You can also post the vote link on some social sites like Myspace, Facebook etc. Remember to include a photo of the cute little dog so people will check it out. Post some comments on high traffic dog blogs and include your link in your sig. Look for some sites where they vote on photos and ask them to visit your blog and vote. Of course, there's also the infamous if you have a friend with a list, ask if they'll do you a favor and ask their list to vote for you. I'm sure you might find a few here

Thanks Patrick thats awesome advice also! Okay, I'm going to get onto doing all of this and I'll keep you updated with the status...

So far, we're number 200 out of 966 dogs in the state - Which is great! I ony registered this morning!

I guess this could be a great 'live lesson' for people learning IM as they will be able to see the real site, and real results rather than just a theoretical one...

Will post all the stages I'm doing as I go

Looks like your first strategy is working. Posting it here

Create a blog about how precious your dog is (make it as sappy as possible). Write about the contest as well including links to voting. If the dog knows any tricks, video the tricks and place it on youtube. Make sure you put the url of the blog in the video as well as the link to the voting in your youtube profile. Send the video to friends and family and ask them to send to their friends and family.

And keep hitting up forums and social sites with your voting link.
