I am so stuck again, after 5 year break

Hi guys

I really do not know what I am doing wrong here but I am seriously struggling to find a good niche to target, I recently went through the ForeverAffiliate course and it is a great course as it got me back up to scratch with how things are working now a days but I am still very stuck on the keyword research phase. It seems like every time I find a decent product (I think anyway) to promote there are the exact same formatted ForeverAffiliate type sites promoting the products (same type of reviews, site layout etc).

I want to do it properly with no short cuts or anything, actually try and build up a passive income portfolio for myself and my future family :-)

This is why I actually gave affiliate marketing a break back when (about 5 years ago), I kept on getting stuck on the right niche selection process. I do believe I am a bit wiser now which is why I am giving it another go and not chasing after every new MMO product available (failed miserably at this the first time, put it down to youth).

I am not sure how to break out of this rut I am in when choosing a niche to target, nothing I have done really sticks out at me for potential markets to go for. With FA I have been doing keyword research for 3 weeks now and have yet to come up with anything viable.

Being a bit more financially secure now I am able to throw a bit more money at my projects (good content, link building etc) but the biggest worry I have is throwing money at failing concepts and never actually making money.

With nothing really to back it up throwing $300 - $500 per niche (product) at the wall to see what sticks can get very expensive very quickly.

I am pleading lol, if anyone can give me some guidance as to a solid approach at niche selection (both minsite and authority) I would very much appreciate it. I am at my wits end with this and am pretty desperate to actually make it work this time (for my own sanity).

Apologies for this long winded post but I am so frustrated at the moment and really do not know where to turn.

The best way to make money online is to find somebody that's making the money you want to make & just copy exactly what they're doing... that's the truth of it.

I failed a LOT until I figured that out.

Find a proven product, promoted by a proven marketer, figure out how they're promoting it & bobs your uncle.

Ha ha I like how easy you make that sound :-)

Thanks for the comment and I understand what you are suggesting and makes perfect sense. Although easier said than done I think.

I think I would be stupid to ask you for the process you use to find the niche and marketer behind the working niche as you would be giving away your game.

I am not really interested in the MMO market as it's all pretty fluffy and I have nothing to back it up with other than what doesn't work ha ha.

Do you just find a niche, copy what the top affiliate site is doing and try outrank? Or are there specific marketers and their niches that you follow and replicate?

but I am still very stuck on the keyword research phase.
    There's your problem.

Pick a tool. A valuable, useful tool like a squeeze page plug-in or a service like hosting. No keyword research is needed as we all know people need these things and new customers are coming into the game every day.

Set up a funnel with a freebie explaining the function and use of your product or service.

Drive targeted traffic to your funnel. Test and tweak. Hammer the hell out of it.

It's so simple yet people continually make it so much harder and more complicated then it has to be.

Zero it sounds to me like you're working backwards in a way, trying to find products in any niche, then stuffing a load of content around them.

With SEO being so difficult to cheat, and social media rewriting the rules of traffic flow, it seems these days the best way to generate traffic is to offer genuinely awesome content. So, you need to become an expert in something.. But it can be anything.

Considering you already have a strong grasp of the whole affiliate paradigm, maybe that's your only weak point, that you haven't focused enough on mastering one niche. Maybe there's something you love doing, or always wanted to learn.

I've read successful marketers saying "become an expert at something" so many times and I'm recently starting to get it, especially as my most successful site is the one that involves my life long passion (a sub niche in music) ..

        Best of luck

Very similar to my passion speech, but I'll add most people are ALREADY an expert at something. So instead of starting from scratch monetize the topic in which you already have expertise.

This. Exactly this. But almost no one listens.

Why are keywords so important? Oh, right. So you can get a front spot on SE results. Okay. But you can search for long tail keywords and all the rest until the cows come home and you're still never going to get enough traffic from a search engine to have it make a difference.

Ask yourself this simple question. Of all the people you know, how many of them go to search engines and look for stuff to buy? It's very likely not many. MMO may be an exception but I really doubt it.

I've been online since 1997. I spend the better part of most days online and I can't tell you the last time I bought anything that started with a random search. I buy from eBay, Amazon and other well known vendors.

Old school SEO has passed. The Internet and people online have matured. Most people have established sources they buy from and rarely do random searches to make purchases. Fewer and fewer people every day buy from search engine queries.

Of course, there are still people that do, especially in some of the more eclectic markets but even then, it's likely they've already found vendors they're happy with. Even if Google was more accommodating, every year billions and billions of new pages are added to the existing ones. That means you have increasingly smaller chances of getting position.

Is SEO still important? Oh, yes. But not the way it was in the past. Look for markets that have a built in audience. This forum is one. eBay is another. There are hundreds, if not thousands of them. I call them marketing ecosystems. They are almost completely self sustaining. They have product and they have community. And, they always have their own little search engine built right into the site. Ask yourself, do I want to fish in the ocean or do I want to fish in a well stocked pond?

SEO as it was seven, even five years ago is dead. And if anyone tells you otherwise it's likely they're selling SEO services.

I really got into creating mini sites in April of this year (really preferred larger, niche sites until then). The key to making money with mini sites is choosing the right product. In order to choose the right product, you have to get to know the niche a little bit. More specifically, you need to get to know the products and leaders in your niche. You need to get on their lists, so you know when product products will be coming out.

The reason I say this is because even outside of the IM niche, I've noticed that the people that build niche sites tend to use the product launch formula. They don't sit around and wait for a product to show up in a keyword research tool (usually a month or two behind) before they get ranked for something. They find out about it and get going. When you're on a product creator's list, you'll find out about the release of a product before it even shows up on the Clickbank marketplace.

While I still like larger sites, I also like creating mini sites because you can crank them out quickly and see results fast -- even if you're lazy (like me). So far, all of the mini sites I've created have been in the same niche (outside of IM), but I think I might expand this in the coming year. I'm one of those indecisive kind of people, so it takes me some time to find a niche that I like and want to work in. For instance, I don't like working in what I call "slow niches," where products are released on a regular basis because the niche is too narrow. I like bigger stuff.

    Good luck,
    Joey

Thanks Joey, I also prefer the idea of a more authority site but after failing like I did 5 years ago I decided to trying one course (ForeverAffiliate) and stick by it. So far it seems all I can stick to is the research phase lol.

Thank you so much for your advice regarding niche leaders, defo something I should be doing and targeting. Good advice thank you

I never went through the course you're talking about, but if it's anything like the thousands of other affiliate marketing courses out there, then I can see why you're "stuck".

Many of these courses teach a rigid form of keyword research where keywords need to meet a certain "criteria".

You really need to toss that out the window because instead of researching for 3 weeks, you could have actually been doing something productive.

The potential market to go after after should contain multiple products that could be viable options to promote. If you choose too narrow of a niche, you're going to be stuck with one off sales (which isn't bad, I'm in a couple niches like that, but your income potential is very limited)

Unless it's a narrow niche you feel you could turn your audience/traffic onto something else as well. An example of this would be a niche product you promote that teaches people to "save money" will also be a good audience for "making money" because if people made more money, they wouldn't need to save (at least a portion of your audience thinks that way) so you can "duel promote" products. Try to find relationships between niches, even narrow ones, as this will expand your income potential.

A no-brainer approach to keyword research is to use UberSuggest.org (a free Google suggest scraper) Type in your main keyword (you can also search for product related keywords as well), hit suggest, and it will spit out results.

Don't over analyse, don't overthink, don't go by search volume, just start picking some keywords and creating content/videos revolving around those keywords. Because regardless of what the planner tells you, these keywords are getting traffic. I've seen that play out time and time again.

If you do that, it creates momentum and you will actually be doing something instead of staring at Google's Keyword planner for 3 weeks looking for a needle in a haystack.

Over time (and it doesn't need to be a long time you just need to be consistent) views and hops to offers will start coming in and keep growing month after month.

Hope all that makes sense... when I first started, I was dumb enough to just start doing stuff and it worked out well as it provided a solid foundation.

And, you will feel a lot better and actually feel like you're getting somewhere.

I totally agree. Avoid getting involved with the technical stuff that keeps you from taking action. I also have found that keeping your keyword research simple and start writing content on the keywords that you see works will already make a big difference. As long as you write good content Google will always give you credit. What I also would recommend is to start a blog for your niche and try to post relevant content every day. Also put an opt-in page on your blog to capture visitors e-mail. The moment you have sign ups you can put them through your sales funnel promoting mulitple products in your nich. Good luck

It sounds like you're stuck in the split testing phase. Sometimes it takes a lot of money to split test your sites and ads, and even more money to build your SEO. Once you can get past that barrier to entry, you should be on your way to consistent profits.

I think you make one big mistake, you see your IM as work that should bring you money.

What if you can make it your passion that brings you money.

Some years ago, I worked on 20-25 different niches, all bringing me some bucks.

When I started to focus on one niche, the one I really love, money came in faster and the work became my passion.

Now, I not even see it as real work anymore, I smile every day when I open my laptop and go on what I like the most.

In my case it is all about cars. I love them, so no problem with creating content, finding advertisers or preparing a good deal.

Find you passion, and make it your niche.

Money can be made in each niche.

I think it's time for you to get a real mentor to get focus for make money then just to do FA tutorials. If you lost in some part of tutorials your real mentor can suggest you their expertise ideas or how to solved your problems. If just too stuck with your FA, now you have lesson learn (stuck) and your FA can help you much since they're just some video's.

    If I can suggest you:

    1. Pick one of affiliate program on your favorite marketplace. (pick one is great so you can start to do the project more fast, if pick more than one you must compare or will be another wasting time)
    2. Go to fiverr to get any keyword related with your program that already picked. (There are some skillful keyword researchers, you can get your keyword in just one day for fast delivery)
    3. Developing your money site. (it's free to do it by yourself or get someone to help you to done it)
    4. Get traffic, build your list and doing JV's
    5. Create ebook from no. 1, 2,3, 4 and sell it to WSO or Jvzoo

    Hi,

    I have a question and think this is the right thread;

Are there people who build a email list and make absolute no money from it- or is this scenario very rare?

With this I mean, to find out what is wrong with an email list that makes no money.
Imagine you have a email list and nobody of your subscribers buy an affiliate product- then what is wrong there?

    Which point is most important to make money with a list;

    - the presell content?
    - the affiliate product?
    - sequence of your newsletter?
