How do I promote my business and get more customers ?

I'm a professional logo and graphic designer with years of experience. I have my own website which allows the customer to view my portfolio, check the packages and place an order. I have been earning well, but it's not growing. Most of the visitors who convert into buyers are referred to my website via other people or forums. Organic traffic to the website (subdomain) is really low, but the main site which is a blog gets decent traffic 2500- 3000 every day.

I don't have a lot of budget for Google advertising. I tried Facebook ads but it never works for me. Now I'm trying to publish articles in the blog section of the website.

I'm sure that if people see my work, they will surely order but how do I get the word out quickly? Where do I find people who need logo, business cards, app icons and other stuff related to graphics.

I don't know how to promote my services online and I need your help. All your inputs are really appreciated.

Here is a big list of freelance sites. I don't suggest you to sit there for 24 hours a day waiting for the client, but you surely need to create a profile page about your services with some examples of your work and a link, leading to your subdomain portfolio. This might help you to get targeted and highly motivated visitors.

A big tip mate would be to contact those who use graphics the most in this space and offer them a sample work for free

I am talking about product creators

I and most of these guys are always looking for good graphics for our products, sales pages, jv pages etc

Also these are the people that understand the value of paying for something that they can not do themselves or is too time consuming

Build up a network of these guys and you will never be out of work

      Hope that helps

By the way pm me some samples, what you can do and prices, currently looking for a go to graphic designer

Do you already use freelancing sites? If not you should as there is a lot of money out there if you are good at what you do and you don't have to pay for any advertising.

That's not really true. Most freelance sites charge a membership fee and also take a cut of the freelancer's payment for services. For larger jobs, the cut they take can add up to a fair amount over time. So, in that regard, you are still paying for advertising - the freelance site is essentially the venue for marketing your services, and they don't do that for free. I'm not suggesting that the OP no go this route, but rather to be aware that it's not free to use them.

It's absolutely true. Yeah sure you pay a small percentage to the site but the work is guaranteed and this is nowhere near what you could potentially pay for advertising and even then any newcomer (or seasoned pro) wouldn't be able to guarantee any return from the advertising costs without extensive testing.

Focus on small jobs to get your rep up and low ball for the first few. You will get more work if you stick at it, it just takes time.

I know about Fiverr. I don't want to go down to that level considering the quality of my work.

Do you think writing articles in the blog section would help?

If yes, what type of articles would be best as my aim is to attract customers, business owners and not other graphic designers.

1 demographic research is vital;it helps to pin point prospects income level, spending habits ,age ethnicity, education level . It helps to zoom into hot prospects.

2 I would do some offline marketing with a laptop and projector

3 Brand yourself and continue to provide solutions to people's problems

4 Send of a few solo ads too .

Points Noted. I was thinking about offline marketing as well. Also I think, offline branding is really important as well.

I have no idea on how to do demographic research. Any tips?

I don`t like Fiverr...Well, one gig starts with $5, but you can add extras up to $100. So if you advertise clever in Fiverr, make nice YouTube videoq and Fiverr video, surely you will succeed.

Other than freelancing websites I'll recommend:

    Social Media

Social Media has become apart of our daily lives and some people are making sales by social media marketing alone. You'd want to be on the social media platforms that your audience is on and then start by building relationships and sharing your projects.

LinkedIn should be included in your list because its more as a online resume than a social media that represents you and your business.

Have you tried bing.com you know bing ads . They are cheaper than google ads. You can run $5 and see what key words are working .
    Or
Have you tried posting in FB groups ie Internet marketing niche / blog niche / website niche a bit time consuming but the right eyes will see your services. Also on Fb there are product creators who are always looking for graphic / logos

You only tried freelancer? Why didn't you try out more freelance websites?
You can create a profile on Elance, Odesk, and so many other websites! (just do a google search for freelance websites, you'll find many).
Create a portfolio, you can show off your work over there, so people can see what it is that you have to offer.
I would suggest Fiverr as well, but only if you're willing to work for really low rates, there are many people over there who make custom logo designs fr $5. I noticed you charge a lot more than that.

Fiverr is too crowded and I charge a small fee for logo design i.e $40.99 for a 2 concept logo. In my opinion $40 is too low for a quality logo design.

Paying for a sponsored thread on Warrior Forum do any good? I mean, If I would like to offer my services on WSO.

You obviously are doing something right you have customers and you have traffic.

    I would start there!

Email all of your current customers and give them a great offer for direct referrals. This will drum up business and possibly get you some referrals. Ask for direct referrals, a call, an email or ...a persons number.

2500-3000 people to your site per day? What kind of advertising or offer are you giving to them? Maybe it is not enticing enough. What does the competition offer? Are you building an email list from all of this traffic. If not do so! Then email with compelling info, fantastic jobs you just created, client testimonials, surveys and Great offers!

This traffic is directed towards my tech blog and not to my subdomain (graphic design website). I mostly post how-to-guides of BleepingTech and that drives traffic. I have tried placing ad banners on my tech blog but the type of audience I get is totally from a different niche.

Bleeping Design has awesome offers. The price is really affordable. The problem here is that people are not aware of my services.

I will have to focus of publishing articles in the blog section of the website and also some paid advertising. I'm also think to start an affiliate profram.

Keep up the blogging. Shoot videos too and upload them on youtube. I don't know if you're doing this, you didn't mention it, but you NEED to build a list. If you're not doing it, that's why your income is not growing.

As long as your blog and videos offer value...something people can benefit or learn from, people will be attracted towards you. They'll be coming to you. It's all about creating high quality content targeting a specific group of people. Be consistent and build a list.

  • Astral walker,

If you're running a one-man graphics design business at the moment, then what you can do is approach top rated freelance Web / desktop / mobile programmers, ebook writers and audio / voice-over artists, among others who regularly get projects from clients that may need graphics design services to go with their projects -- For example, mobile app programmers and desktop software developers usually don't have creative graphics design abilities, and the projects that they get normally require significant visual user interface design work. So:

Find those top rated freelancers in popular sites like oDesk.Com, Freelancer.Com and so on; and

Approach them. Negotiate a mutually beneficial arrangement with them where they'd get exclusive discounts for your graphics design services, they'd get a fixed commission percentage from clients that they send to you, you'd get exclusive discounts for their programming services, you'd get fixed commissions from each client you send to them, etc.

And, if you run a team of graphics designers, then you can approach bigger teams of programmers, digital content authors and developers. Negotiate similar deals with them ...
