Really struggling to find a niche

Hi guys
Sorry it seems like Im starting countless new threads here on a daily basis but im just really wanting to do something different with my life and really think internet marketing is what I want to do and i think I will be good at it.

Anyways I am really struggling to choose a niche. I have read a few places to choose something you are passionate about and heard from elsewhere contradictory reports. The only thing I am really passionate about is football but I don't think that there will be many products to push other than gambling systems and to be honest i have no interest in that at all.

Does anyone know of a good guide/ebook/video/course ANYTHING that helped them? or that you would recommend?

Also what is the best way to approach keyword research? I'd prefer not to spend $150 on market samurai although i have been told its really good.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

I think you need to consider a niche that you can see yourself doing. When you read emails, what gets your more excited, what kind of people do you like listening too? I guess you'll get a lot of advice from people who recommend WSO's but at the end of the day... you really want to find resources and people that you can resonate with.

I wouldn't say that Keyword Research should be a major factor in the beginning, but it depends on what you're trying to do. When starting out, you should consider building a structured sales funnel, put together a system so that you can position yourself and lead people through in a way that's going to benefit them.

You could use Amazon, if something is selling on the Amazon, there is a market for it. Don't worry, once you start making money (in any niche), you'll start to get passionate about it.

What the best way to find the best selling products in a particular niche on amazon then?

Adding to this. I will say you have to do some research. Use the Google Keyword tool, ebay, Amazon hot selling, ezinearticles, etc to find a niche you like that has the monthly searches you want. Invest a few hours to make your own research. There are many other football niches. Check clickbank, cj or amazon for some other products on that niche. Remember we are here to help, but not do the work for you.#NoOffence.

Agreed. Working with a niche that you're already passionate about makes the process far easier -- and enjoyable.

I can think of countless things you could do in the Football niche, as with most niches that appear to be fairly broad at first sight.

Here's a few off the top of my head:

How to be a better goalkeeper (I'm interpreting 'football' as being soccer?)

How to select the best football boots

How to train to be a superstar footballer

How to get picked as a trainee footballer

...you see how this works? You look for problems that people have and then find a solution for them.

What you have to bear in mind in niche marketing is that you are providing help to people that need it - the more desperate the better. People go online everyday to find solutions. All you have to do is find out what they are looking for and then research solutions.

Check out football magazines and see what questions readers are posing or whether there are articles that help people achieve things or solve problems. Also research forums and see what members are asking (just as you have here)!

As for keywords, Google Adwords: Keyword Planner is a place to start if you can't afford Market Samurai (though the latter does have a free trial period). What Market Samurai does is show what the SEO competition is like for keywords you've picked, which will give you some sort of indication as to whether blog content based around those keywords is likely to get good SE traffic.

But first, research your niche for where the problems are.

Thanks but youve pretty much proved my point
I mean what products could you offer someone about how to be a better goalkeeper?
Even if i created my own ebook I cant see people falling over themselves to pay for that info

Or am I just being pessimistic?

Hey bigdougie, I think that you're so frustrated, you're not seeing woods for the trees. Anyway, here's the deal. People here have given you a lot of good advice. JPaston over there handed a whole bunch of products on a platter.

So, this is what you do. You learn how to write short books that focus on one subject. You may think that people may not be falling over themselves to buy stuff, but you gotta think outside the box. If somebody is looking for information and you put it at a price they can afford, they will pay for it. Let's say you sell these books at $5. If you sell 1000 of one of these , that's $4,500 and change after fees and stuff. You just have to find out what people are truly passionate about in that sport. Hey this is a sport where people kill the referee and behead him in public, if they don't like the decision he made. Trust me, these people will pay 5 bucks for some information that they're too lazy to search for.

As far as Amazon is concerned, they have a lot of football stuff there you can sell. Football stuff is expensive and even though Amazon doesn't pay high commission it adds up. Here again, you have to learn how to sell through amazon, but the people that teach those courses will also teach you how to find keywords.

italk gave you a lot of good advice. Right now, you've just discovered the tricycle of IM but you saw a video of dirt bikes and people jumping over hoops and you want to do that. But you still don't know how to ride the tricycle.

Anyway, just start doing something, and if that doesn't work, do something again, until you figure out what makes money for you. Here's a for instance. Some guy used to be a high school football coach. Here's his website

      Football coaching videos

Now this is a more sophisticated product, but look this guy was a high school coach. And he's selling stuff cause he knows there's a market out there. Have you ever coached? Have you ever played the game? Surely there is some amazing experience you've had that the rest of the world wants to hear about. Or maybe you've just watched it on tv all your life and at the stadiums. Surely, there's millions of guys like you out there. This is a culture. There is something out there you can sell these people.

Maybe just a bit pessimistic! Good ideas have already been floated to you.

      - Sit down and write 10 ideas a day (the first 3-4 may be easy - DO 10! push yourself to dig deep!) on football information that people find interesting.
      - Do not initially think about how you will monetize it initially. Just write down topics!
-Come up with 2 or 3 of your favorites after you have 50-70 ideas written down and then come back and ask for ideas on how you may be able to monetize those specific ideas.

You have picked a NICHE! Football. Now take the next step to generate ideas and then consider how to monetize.

Niche picked! Move on to the next action! If it craps to bed in 60 or 90 days, take what you have learned and pick a different niche!

      Best of Luck!

Yes, you're being pessimistic. It's OK - most of us have done that, been there!

Initially you're thinking, "I'm no expert. What could I possibly tell anybody about football that they don't already know?"

The answer may surprise you - lots!

I, for one, wouldn't have the faintest idea about how to become a goalkeeper, let alone how to be a better one. So, I think I've got the height and the ability, but where do I go from here? I'm enthusiastic about playing football and have always admired the top goalkeepers, but where do I start? And, when I do start, where do I get the training to be better? How do I achieve the fitness level necessary to become a pro? And so on...

Frankly, if you can't find products to offer someone then why not create products that answer the questions that people are looking for?

Like I said, you need to do that first before anything else. Find out what people are desperate to know and are willing to pay to get the answers. Then provide the solution, whether it's someone else's product or your own product.

I actually am in the soccer / football niche, and I can tell you first hand.. you are being W A Y pessimistic. Just in amazon product alone I make $2000+ a month on average. World cup? hahahaha

I think every sport has the potential. The overall key for me is Social media. understanding that the whole idea of scheduling content is a bunch of crap. The concept that works for me is to scour the web for news and simply be the first place your audience sees it.

Become a source for news, and you by default become a source for their other sport related needs.

I think you are being pessimistic.

First look at your niche: Football

Are people spending money of football? Yes.
T-shirts, jerseys, lamps, football cards, video games, bobble heads, tickets, videos

Are people passionate about football? Yes.
There are blogs, forums, fan clubs, fan pages, facebook groups

Do people argue about football? Yes.
Fans argue over teams, rules, wins, losses, best/worst players, best/worst teams/eras

SO you have a niche where people are passionate, people argue their passion and people spend a lot of money.

      That is a winning niche.

You need to find an angle to reach the niche and make money.

      Amazon sales.
      Teespring sales.
      Affiliate sales.
      Ad clicks.
      Ticket commissions.

The problem is not the niche. Football is a multi-billion dollar a year industry.

--> really think internet marketing is what I want to do and i think I will be good at it.

--> The only thing I am really passionate about is football but I don't think that there will be many products to push other than gambling systems and to be honest i have no interest in that at all.

    ====

You are trying to look for answers outside, when the
    real answers are within you.

I know a guy who runs a football website with 3 million
    pageviews per month.

You will also notice pattern like yours in many forums - that
pattern where you "read" so much about Internet Marketing
that you think this is what you want to do.

Have you made big money in this niche?

I can confidently tell you this: stop thinking a lot.

Just sit on the scooter and enjoy the ride. You will hit
your "sweet spot" only when you take action.

When I started, I didn't have any product or ebook to "sell" to
my readers. I just did what I loved, then I moved onto something
    and finally found my interest.

The trick here is to keep doing.

You have to dig the ground to find gold. No one told
you it's going to be easy, but if you don't dig deep
enough, you will not get what you want.

So it is not a question of finding the right niche that
will help you sell stuff, or should you follow what
    you are passionate about.

It is about YOU and what you will do to take action.

    Sounds philosophical? You bet!

-> Also what is the best way to approach keyword research? I'd prefer not to spend $150 on market samurai although i have been told its really good.

If you prefer not to, use free tools that works. You
already know Googling will give you links to elaborate
    keyword research process.

    Good luck!

Cliches are usually based in some truth and follow your passion is a long-time one in the marketing world.

Your goal-keeper example is a good one about the challenges inherent in that approach but it gives you a place to start brainstorming....ie. sports, sports nutrition, training, ect.

Go to Clickbank and take a look at the categories in your area of interest and you will find ways to monetize your interest.

You could tie football in with the need to be fit. So fitness (which is a HUGE niche) could be the niche you target with your angle (lead in) being football. Talk about your favorite team, whether that is Chelsea, Man U, Man City, etc.

Create a fan site of your favorite team or even a blog and talk about the news, transactions, club details, etc. After you do that successfully, expand to other teams.

That is one way to do it.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9741435].message }}
  • It's ok to pick a niche that you are interested in as long as there is enough interest and you can get enough traffic to make it worth your while.

You can't go wrong with evergreen niches like health, wealth, relationships. You could pick a sub niche under one of those.

Also, anytime you can offer a solution to a problem, especially in the niches above you have a good chance to succeed.

If none of those topics appeal to you and if you have a hobby you like check into that and you could build a blog out of it.

Make sure to do some keyword research with keyword planner or other tools to see potential traffic numbers. Also make sure there are multiple products you could promote to make money. Another option is to create a product of your own and sell it on clickbank, etc.

My rule of thumb when picking a niche is:

When Passion & Profit Meet, You Got A Winner!

So find something that you have interest in, do some research to see if it is in demand and if you can make money from it. Once you do that, you should find a solid niche that meets both of those criteria.

    Hope this helps

If you are going to be blogging or sending information to your list, I would choose something that interests you. Your readers will pick up on your posts if you are bored by the subject matter. Do some research on Amazon or clickbank in sports/football. I have no experience with the sporting niches but I imagine it must be a huge category. Drill down to find a subniche.

It shouldn't be hard for you to find a niche. If all else fails, look to amazon for ideas. Don't look on their best seller's list (Rachael Ray, celebrities, etc). Look for instruction manuals and info-products.

Or, do a google search for membership websites who give you a new niche product (with the sales page too) each month for as long as you stay subscribed. This would alleviate alot of your problems right there. It's just something to get you started. But finding a niche shouldn't be hard at all.

    Steven,

Okay. First things first. You need to be thinking long-term. 3 to 5 years minimum of daily and weekly consistent work. Potentially with little or no profit. Not willing to do this? Then maybe consider doing something else.

Also, you are asking some of the right questions but are missing some questions.

I would strongly recommend looking at Scott Dinsmore's website Live Your Legend: Change The World By Doing Work You Love | Live Your Legend

There is a lot of free stuff and then some paid courses on how to find stuff you are passionate and make money either working or an internet business.

Some of the things he talks about I have not really seen elsewhere. People talk about PPC, SEM, SEO etc but his underlying message is:

    1. Create insanely useful content

Things people will rave about and love. There are some top internet entrepreneurs who spend 12-18 hours on just one blog post!

This is the pillar of the work. Plus serving others. You talk a lot about yourself but not about service and how you are passionate and excited to change other peoples' lives. If it is just about making money you will probably find it hard to make money I believe.

The other thing is just start. Right now. Take one or two of your passions and just start.

I have started a soccer website about 4 months ago. My aim is to do this for 3 years and post every week a number of posts. I have no idea if it will be successful or if or how I will make money from it. However, when I started I picked certain topics I saw were popular. Then I just 'found' the stuff I knew about in this area and incorporated those.

I also worked out what is the budget I can afford to lose each year? How much would I be willing to put into it even if I made nothing from it. I then started investing this. There are many free ways of then connecting with people in this area that I had never realised and will become apparent to you once you have something worthwhile offering.

As you keep working, you will find opportunities ans ideas which never even occurred to you. And it pushes you in ways that I never realized with soccer. I am learning things I never knew and starting to become an expert in areas I never even considered or really knew a lot about.

So, my advice is to just pick something and start asap. Maybe pick three areas. From the Millionaire Fast Lane book, the aim is to build an asset which has high interest level. - I can't remember the rest of the items but there were three or four parts to having a successful Asset.

    1. Find a few sub-topics or areas you are interested in/passionate about - not just soccer
    2. Do some thinking - look for data points to support you
    3. Pick a name - I used a Fiverr.com name finder service
    4. Get a Wordpress blog on Hostgator or similar hosting provider
    5. Set a plan for the first year or two - regular articles or videos etc on certain days -consistency is key. You could also get friends or hire writers etc. how many articles and videos you will write
    6. Get going and learn about response over a period of time
    7. Look for free and perhaps paid marketing after a while
    8. Change and adapt your content and website as you learn more and what people are interested in

If your website is amazing quality, you can add content and sales material etc. You can add courses, books etc. Things which are not available anywhere else.

With my website I know no-one can match me. No-one can produce the content I can on a regular basis. Even if no-one reads it! (I have had a few thousand readers since I started). It is not easy but is a lot of fun.

The second approach is to take a very specific problem. What is it that you can solve for someone else? Create a course and website based on this. I have done this and my website has achieved a reasonable income based on something I had done in my life.

There must be things in your life you can do or help people with. If not get to the stage where you can do this. Read one of Scott Dinsmore's other posts about Doing Epic Stuff.

Sorry, this is a bit of a rambling post. The key is to take long consistent action and to keep doing it - obviously adapting and testing - and making sure there is a market etc - but to keep doing it even if success might not appear possible or even probable.

Anything with a large demographic. Cosmetics for 36 year old women is a biggie.

Look at the EPC --- Earnings per click on CPA networks to get an idea of what's converting. This is sort of like looking at the premier league table, those at the top are on average the best team but can still get beat (as Chelsea will find out on Monday!).

If you're going to do football, maybe slant it towards kids as they may spend bigger on it.
