How to research YouTube keywords? Any tips for a newb?

Hello all,

I know that YouTube plays a big role in marketing one's website but I have no clue as to how to efficiently find the right search terms or keywords after creating a video.

Thanks in advance!

We've done very well on Youtube (approaching 5 million views now) and anytime we create a new video, I just use Google's Keyword Planner to do keyword research. Mostly because I really want to rank in Google as well.

I just figure if it's good enough for Google it's good enough for Youtube (since they own them).

That being said, Ryan Deiss also has a piece of software called Freshkey that will pull back search results from places like Amazon, Youtube, and more. Check that out too.

I use the free Google keyword tool and find words , sayings and phrases by using:

    Google related search
    Wiki search
    Ubersuggest

and also by spying on what other related top sites are using by viewing the source on the page and looking for keyword clues in the title and h1 tags.

You can build yourself a nice little list of good keywords to target this way and by placing them in to the planner tool you will probably find some other hidden ones as well.

    • My KW Research usually goes as follows:

      1) Youtube suggest (start typing your keyword and see what YT brings up)
      2) Then head to Google Keyword planner
-Check the highest volume related words
      -Check competition
      3) Check SEObook.com for the high volume searches
      - Cross reference search volumes
      - Get better idea of related searches
      4) (Seldom go to this step) Use Jaaxy.com
I only ever use Jaaxy to have a third cross reference source
and it give better competition analysis

      Your welcome =)

and to kind of piggy back on this thread...how many key words do you use?

    Long tail key words?

    I generally put between 6-8 key words in my videos...;

    What does everyone think?
