Looking for opinions on solo ads...

I am relatively new to using solo ads as a form of marketing. I have heard of a few ezines that will send solo ads, but before investing in it I would like some opinions.

Is there a solo ad company or ezine that you have used and had a good response...... or a bad one.

Basically I would like to know who I should steer clear of and who would be a reputable company to send my money to...

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Amanda, my advice is not to focus in finding ezines (or solo ad companies) where OTHER people succeed by promoting ANOTHER product, from ANOTHER niche, using ANOTHER ad copy and ANOTHER salesletter. It won't help you too much.

Focus on finding a list of ezines to be avoided, then search for ezines from the same niche like the product or service you plan to promote, subscribe to them to see the quality of the mailings, the frequency, etc. and only then decide what ezine is best FOR YOU.

Here is a resource for your "to be avoided list": Ezine Advertising Ad Co-ops: Reviews (it contains proofs for "to be avoided" recommendation)

and here are some reviews containing results of ezine advertising campaigns: Ezine Advertising Campaigns Results

    I hope this helps you.

    Adrian

I haven't done a lot of eZine marketing, but I think for someone to be able to answer your question, you will have to say what niche you are in.

Absolutely. Advertising in ezines not related to the niche of the product/service you promote is shooting in the dark.

However, if you check the answers to such questions posted in forums you'll see that usually the OP is not getting the responses she or he is looking for. And this is fully understandable. If you reveal the ezine where you advertise your product, then the publisher will be happy (more business) but you won't be so happy (more competitors for the SAME ad space, which means a longer waiting time for your own solo ad).

I appreciate the insight into this from everyone. Thanks for the "to be avoided" links - I will check into them.

I was a little skeptical about the prospect of the solo ads producing the kinds of results I would like anyway.

I will definitely do more research before putting my money into anything. I am very cautious with anything having to do with paying for services upfront anyway.

I get most of my traffic and sales from free means of advertisements anyways.

Again, everyone's help and comments are appreciated. So, thanks to all who have answered thus far.

Ezine Advertising is a hit and miss thing. My advice for you is to work hard to build a sizable list first, about 500 to 1000 and then begin ad swapping. You will find that the traffic is more targeted that way.

      Yes and No

Yes - if you promote a product or service without having in place a proper marketing funnel that helps you build your own list; No - if you use it to build your own list
