Is the "Make Money Online" niche still worth exploring?

I have been reading a lot of blogs and forums in the past few days after I stumbled upon one blog post on the topic "Make money online - a dead niche". The post was beautifully written, explaining why people should not even think of getting into the "make money online" niche now, because it is too late and the competition in the niche was so high that it was not worth the efforts. The author has some understanding about the topic that he was writing and was not just any other blogger who would write on "anything under the sun", without actually knowing the meaning of "being under the sun". This made me ponder - was the make money online niche actually dead?

Whatever the expertise of the author of the post, I would want to assume that he is much ahead of me in terms of basic blogging knowledge (going by the quality of the post he had written). But I would have to apologetically say - "Mr. Author, I beg to differ and disagree with your view". I feel that even today, the "make money online" niche is still worth investing and there is huge profits waiting to be made in this niche. The only thing required is a bit of research and some extra efforts to excavate the goldmine to find the real gold.

Though I do not have substantial data to support this, I had enough evidence to back up my conclusion and that is when I decided I would take a plunge into the "make money online" niche.

A friend of mine, who was working with a leading insurance company, once read one of my blogs (this is about 8 months back, to be precise) and found reference to a post by Yaro Starak. This took her to his blog and she downloaded the "Blog Profits Blueprint", e-book from Yaro. She was tired of the 9 - 5 job that she was doing and wanted to desperately make some money online. She went by everything line-by-line that Yaro had written in the book and started a blog. Guess, what the niche was - "Make Money Online" Niche.

Her blog oriented around, how women could make money online along with a 9 - 5 job. She even had tips to help housewives make a living out of the internet. She researched enough and found a few excellent keywords around these topics and started the blog. I had the opportunity to set-up the entire blog for her and optimize it for her keywords. In about 26 days her blog started to show up on the first page of Google for those keywords. These 3 keywords for which her site was optimized had more than 15,000 searches every month and only about 200 results. 8 months later, she is actually making a living out of her blog. Her income from advertisements on the blog, sales from affiliate products and a few mini-sites that are being promoted through her blog comes to almost about $22,000 per month. Decent income, isn't it?

So, who says, that the "make money online" niche is dead. No niches die. There are lots of niches within niches. The only thing required is that you put in some more efforts and research to find this niche within the niche. If you are to go by the wisdom from the Goobers, this would mean that you scrub through lots and lots of forums, read blogs, use the best tools and keep your eyes and ears wide open. Don't even wink your eyes - lest you might just miss the goldmine.

If you have decided that you want to go after the "make money online" niche, then go after it. Don't listen to the people who profess that this niche is dead. These are the same people who professed that the dotcoms are dead, when the IT bubble busted. But here we are - the dotcoms are very much alive and is probably the biggest money-spinners even today.

Research ,research and research is the mantra for success in today's competitive blogging environment. You might not become a Yaro Starak or, a Jeremy Schoemaker overnight, but who knows, 2 years from now, I might be reading an e-book written by you on "making money online".

The only people who do not make money in the 'make money online niche' are those people who have never made money online.

you know, the make money online niche isn't dead, far from it. But it does get harder to compete in it. Since a lot of people start in that niche.

It would be better if those people first got into other niches and made a success there, only to come back to the mmo niche later on

    just a thought though

Make Money Niche never gonna die as it's the or one of the most important thing in ones life, and each day thousands of people all over the world search net for ways to make money online. I just sometime wonder why some people put forward the idea of the death of this make money niche when they themselves are running after it.

The "make money online" niche is an undying niche. Everyday, many newbies enter this niche and some leave, but there will always be a demand.

In fact, this is one of the best niches to go into as the people in it are known to spend money. You can almost offer thousands of different kinds of products and there will be buyers.

    Saturated? Hardly!

There are no barriers to competition here, so the saturation point is infinite.

However, it personally annoys me that 90% of sites about "making money online" are written by people that don't make enough money online to pay their bills.

      Jobic,
You thought is indeed valuable. That will actually be a good idea because if people get into other niches and become successful ,then they will not get demotivated when they get into the "make money online" niche and fail initially.
I personally have followed this strategy. I first ventured into a career-building niche blog and then into some minisites on the hobbies niche like fishing, golfing, cycling etc. and then gathered the courage to enter the "make money online" niche.

      Davion,
The make money online niche is one that has tens of thousands of products to promote in any affiliate network. Selling them is also not that difficult (provided the product is good) because people who are looking forward to make money online, obviously would be ready to invest some money into doing it.

      Dan,
You are absolutely right. Almost 90% of the sites are full of content that are copied and pasted from other successful blogs. Their authors have never even browsed through actually successful blogs like those of Yaro, Brian Clark or, Darren's. Yet you will find content copied from these blogs and they would claim that they are multi-millionaires.

The niche isn't dead, but people who haven't made any money in it have
no business telling other people how to make money in it.

I didn't write my first "how to make money online" book until I'd been in
this business for over 3 years and had success both as a freelancer and
affiliate marketer promoting health related products.

It absolutely burns my cookies when I see people here with signatures "How
to make $30,000 a month" and then they come here and ask what they
can do to make $500 by the end of the month.

If you're not making money you have no business in this niche.

        IMO.

Great post I couldnt agree more. Same goes for people who have made their first $20 online and start doling out advice to newbies like myself. I would never dream of giving business advice to someone until I was making a comfortable full time living online, those are the types of people newbies like me want advice from. Not some guy whose barely in a better position than me.

That depends on how strictly you want to define the "make money online" niche.

If you define it strictly in terms of products that show you how you can make x number of dollars per month, then, yes, you should (maybe) make x dollars per month before you tell someone else how to do so.

But, I would argue that the "make money online" niche is bigger than that, and would cover related products. For example, a product on how to setup a blog on WordPress could fit in the "make money online" niche. It's certainly conceivable that someone could have had a personal blog for months or years and learned the ins and outs of WordPress but never made a dime. But, the specific knowledge being offered is still worthwhile.

How to create eCovers, how to do 3D graphics, how to use FTP, etc. are all things that could fit in the make money online niche.

So, there's a range of products that fit in the niche that aren't specifically about making money, but rather learning the skills you need to put the advice of actual make money online products into action.

I agree with you 100%. I was specifically talking about products that
say "Make this amount of money" or similar.

Those other products you mention, IMO, aren't really make money
products though I can see how they would be lumped in with the broader
            niche.

And to another member who said, it's no different than any other niche,
I agree with you. I will only promote products where I have enough
knowledge of the niche to speak intelligently about it.

In other words, I don't care how much money I could make selling blue
widgets. I know nothing about them, don't know if they're even good or
not and therefore will stay away from the niche.

Ultimately, everybody has to do what they're comfortable with doing.

I do agree with you, I hate seeing the signatures that say, "See how I make $xxxx a month" when they aren't, because they are lying.

However, if you were entering the golf niche, would you make sure you could drive 400 yards before doing so?

Would you go out and buy a puppy and train it successfully before entering the dog niche?

As long as they aren't lying and stating that they personally have achieved these things then It's no different than a noob entering the make money online niche.

People who haven't made money online shouldn't enter the niche due to it's competiveness and because they would have a tough time succeeding in it due to their lack of experience but I can't see how it's any different to what I said above.

The make money niche is very competitive... You have to be good at what you do to make any money in that niche. I also hate reading about people who think the only way to make money online is to sell an ebook on making money online.

There are so many easier niches to make money from why chase the same one every man and his dog is chasing?? The same effort could get you starting a bigger income earner

The "make money online" niche will not die. Quite simply, it's because the people interested in this niche have voracious appetites for more and more information. True, there is a great deal of competition because of the fact that there is so much desire.

I love this niche the best, but it's not the niche I do best in, simply because of the competition ad the fact that the information often gets outdated quickly. I've created products in the make-money-online niche but have found that they are only good for so long and then that particular product becomes obsolete and you eventually lose that asset.

My strategy is to sell off my assets while they are making a good profit because eventually (in many cases) your product will be eaten by competitors.

Two weeks ago I sold one of my "other" niche websites/ ebook products after running the site for a year. This particular site netted me about 25K over the course of a year and I sold it for 50K one year after I started it. With the "make money online" niche, the profits are up front and the site becomes worth less and less because what you sell today in this niche, will not be relevant tomorrow (in most cases).

What gets me about the "make money online" niche is that often it is promoted by someone who clicked once in a particular niche, perhaps even getting lucky, and they take their approach and promote it as though it will work in every niche every time.

What works once in a specific niche at a certain point of time does not by any means guarantee success in the future.

HI everyone - I am new here, just signed on today, anyways I am an old hat at selling online, infact I have read the Warriors forum online many times in the past few years, but I have been so busy selling products online, that I never really had the chance to chat here.

Anyways getting back to your question , I think you can break it down into 3 parts.

1st.) There have been so many people scammed online by rip off ebook sellers....That people have become tired of losing their hard earned money on worthless ebooks and online money making programs.
And That's very sad, because there are a few good ebooks selling on the market, yet out of the 1000's selling I only know a 3 or 4 that can really make money online.
So it comes down to trust - when you make a sale can you gain the trust of your readers and will they buy from you?

2nd)- There always new people coming into the Internet - There is always a new constant market or stream of consumers ... a new stream constantly flowing people. So Yes You can still make sales. I've had some real huge volumes of sales online selling over the past year. So Don't give up.

3rd) Knowledge is Power.....I think of the Internet as my own personal ( College of Knowledge ) You can learn a lot online - If you are not lazy and wise enough to do research and study online.
And you must become very crafty in your internet marketing skills. Be 100% original and remember supply and demand rule. So If you have the Supply and there's a huge demand you'll do great selling online.
Also learn every code, script, cron code and study marketing phrases and learn how to ranked your website on google, learn what it takes to draw in huge masses of people. And you'll make sales !!

    Thanks Mr Money Maker

  • You make a very good point. Also remember that the people saying that this niche is dead are not wanting new competition. There is always going to be demand for this niche. Who does not want to make money online. The truth of the matter is that you do have to think smarter and find the sub-niches. With the economy the way it is so many people are turning to the web. If you are going to pursue this niche then you are going to compete with some stiff competition and you need to set yourself apart from all the scammers out there. I have personally purchased so many programs and have studied for 8 to 9 months before I started trying to implement the information. I believe it is finally coming to me know. But I had to sift through all the garbage out there, waste a lot of money and time before I felt comfortable starting. I believe that if you pursue this niche correctly you can be successful. The best tip I can give you is to be truthful and helpful to your customers. Don't give pie in the sky dreams. Tell them like it really is. The more you can relate to your audience the more successful you wil bel

Making money has become an essential part of our life, so people always

I agree with you Igor, it is indeed a stupid question.

But the fact of the matter is that there are so many articles and blogs out there on the internet professing and preaching that the "Make money online" niche is dead and that newbies cannot survive, if they get into this niche. I would want to believe that these people are the ones who do not want any competition in this niche and hence are driving away people wanting to come into it.

The other day I received an email from a person who said that he has joined some online membership site, that promised to help him make money online and got into this niche. But even after 2 months of joining them and following everything that they said (or, so he claims), he was not able to make a penny.

Now the question here is -
1). Did he follow everything that the membership site taught him?
2). Was the membership site a genuine one? (I would want to believe so because it has enough reputation that could speak for itself)

Such newbies get discouraged because they were not able to make any money online. It might have been because he did not follow instructions like 1-2-3. It might also be that he was a victim of procrastination.

But the fact is that he is discouraged and wants to believe in the people professing that this niche is dead.

I think the make money online niche is only really compettive for those that are just reselling other's material.

There will always be fresh customers looking to make money.
They will always want fresh programs, fresh persepctives
You can't keep reselling stuff that they have already seen and will probably get warned off about.

If you provide a fresh program that even just follows the basics of marketing, i would think your business would go on as long as the internet has new people joining it (which the last i heard was something like 150k brand new people every single day)
