Someone in China registered a domain with my trademark

My competitor had been sitting on a bunch of domains with my trademark and didnt renew. They all expired and I snatched them all up yesterday - or so I thought. I missed one domain - Let's call it mytrademark.net which I think was registered immediately by what looks like a domain registrar in China before I could get to it. That company is

I own the trademark in China and am doing business there. I am assuming they will likely try and sell it back to me. Has this happened to anyone before? I am not sure how to handle this. Should I write them? Ignore it? Wait and see? They only registered it for 1 year, so my guess is they will let it go if no one purchases it from them.

Because I am selling my products there already I am sort of worried this may turn into a bigger legal issue if someone tried to rip off or copy my products and use that domain so I want to nip this in the bud.

You said you own the trademark in China. If that is the case, why don't you just go to the authorities there (where you registered the trademark) and file a complaint? There should be a mechanism for doing that.

If you own the trademark then an ICANN complaint would get the domain transferred to you.

ICANN is not in China so there is no safety for the squatter behind those walls.

EDIT: Sorry, after reading I see it does not apply to .net domains but it may be worth digging to see if you have some recourse through ICANN or the offending domain registrar.

Contact the authorities. It is illegal to do that and they can get in some big trouble for doing such things.

forgive me if this sounds dumb, but what "authorities" am I contacting? I agree with you guys that I need to contact someone but I don't know who to contact.
There is a link on the ICANN website about it which is broken so that doesnt help, but it also looks like it's going to cost a small fortune to file this stuff and I feel like there must be an easier/cheaper way.

Send them a letter regarding your owning trademark first see what you get for reply.I know in my city a guy trademarked "fallsview"And he worked out a deal with every business and the city hall that they pay him a yearly fee to use it since they went crazy using it on everything. He's a everyday Joe who needless to say is a Rich one.Just google fallsview Niagara Falls and you'll see who's paying him.
Maybe offer them a deal but first wait and see how they respond to your letter and register the letter and photocopy the letter and outside envelope.Have them date stamped at Post Office.
