How does a website make money from hits alone?

Whats going on Warriors,

100 dollar bill here again to ask a simple question but that has me weirdly curious. Ready for it? How does a website make money from just hits? Lets say a website does not have Google ad sense or any other monetization how could it possibly make money from just "hits" alone. Thanks and I do appreciate it very much.

    Hundreds of ways.

The one I sense you're seeking is affiliate marketing: where the traffic leaves through affiliate links and the website owner, the affiliate, receives some form of payment if the right action is taken.

Hows it going Get Rich Methods,

While I am not trying to sound rude or even ungrateful but isn't that a form of monetizing a website. I originally asked how does a website make money with just "hits" alone. No affiliate links or anything of that nature just the website and some content how is it that some sites still make money from just "hits" alone. Thank you and have a nice afternoon.

You're quite right. I misread. Sorry about that, buddy! You know, it's a good question. It must be good because I can't actually say publicly some of what I'd like to say (or in private for those reading this lol).

        Give you a few ideas:

        1. Usually, the more traffic, the more valuable the site (website sales).
2, Same as above. (Domain sales.)
        3. SEO reasons, particularly PBN.
        4. Media Buys
        5. Feeder Site
        6. Selling Marketing Services (example of work)
        7. Squeeze Page.

This is like asking how a retail store can make money with no products on the shelves, to try and make money just from people being in the store.

You can't. There has to be some reason for money to transfer from somebody (be it a visitor or an advertiser) to you.

The only option for just "hits" (not counting backlinks, email captures, or anything else that would allow you to market to visitors outside of the site) that I can think of is to sell the site to somebody else who would monetize it (since you mentioned no monetization on the site whatsoever).

I'm thinking maybe consistently make your site get thousands of hits everyday, then sell it to someone on flippa etc - and let them turn it into a good "general" site that they can make money from. One man's trash is another man's treasure?!

Sites that get a lot of traffic but no ads or monetization like Wikipedia make money off donations.

Other website owners may be trying to build authority and that would be building today to bring in a lot of income later down the road.

Not for the average new marketer who wants to make money today.

    It doesn't. Period.

Could be because of hundreds of reasons.

There are bloggers who don't have any ulterior motives for their blog. They just want to write about what they love and connect with people in their niche. You'll see a lot of tumblr blogs that run on this principle. In Tumblr, the only payoff they get is an increase in followers and re-blogs, but they seem happy with it.

But again, just because there is no monetization right now does not mean there won't be in the future. Many startups wait until their brand becomes famous before introducing some form of monetization; Facebook is a good example.

Then again, just like many posters already told, they could just be building up traffic so they can sell their site on Flippa later on. Though, if I were to do something like that, I would still have some form of monetization on my site so it can make some money. By showing earnings proof, you can sell your site for a higher price than just showing traffic proof.

I also concur with the reply above. The site owner is building up for future gem. Note that the biggest money makers are not sudden, it takes time to build something concrete. Nice question you brought up..

If you have created an authority site in a niche market with high priced items, for example plastic surgery new York. You could find a plastic surgeon willing to pay for retargeting from your site. The surgery would have access to a targetted, motivated audience and you keep the integrity of your site.

Alternatively you could hire out the site to the surgery so they can place a link on the site or have the about me page changed to the lead surgeon.

"How do you monetize a site without using any monetization?"

      Oooh, it's a riddle: I like those.

My solution to the conundrum is that the webmaster has had a bet with a friend, who will pay him a penny per visitor if he can get above a certain number, which he's managed to achieve.

    Hey buddy,

There are actually a lot of ways. But one good advice I can give you for the type of website you are describing is to earn through membership payments. Turn your website into a directory listing website and make it popular. Later on a lot of people will be eager to get listed in your website and BOOM! you got all the profit flowing.

And if your website is no popular at the moment also, you can make use of this same method to market your website through free listing but with reciprocal link required or very cheap payment plus link back required.

I believe the ONLY WAY is to make the site popular and then sell it somewhere? Other than that, you're walking into an empty shop. Hehe.

Well, if you have no outlet to make money than hits are worthless obviously.

The ONLY way would be to sell the site and it's traffic so someone else could monetize it.

So many people thinking inside the box...

Ok, we have a website that has no monetizing and lots of constant traffic. How do we make money?

Easy... Add a subscription form and offer a gift to those that subscribe. Now, instead of monetizing your website, monetize your list.

If the owner is not monetizing the website, then it probably doesn't make any money. Some people do it for fun.

Some years back, I stumbled across a site that promised to pay per 1000 banner impressions if you put up their banner on your home page. The sum of money was really low and not really worth going for. And, the ads they wanted to show were very low rent. No respectable webmaster would ever go for something like that.

    Maybe Adf.ly?

A website that doesn't have any sort of ads probably isn't making that much money unless they have some type of optin form on it to capture subscribers.

I guess that the person who sold it needed the money right away and was not thinking LONG term.
Or just didn't know how to make it profitable.

on adsense when the visitors click on the ads obviously
it's important to know what kind of hits/vists are these
since they could be from an ad surfing program or something and those aren't worth anything
