Default It’s Christmas – how are you going to make it even more commercial?

Seeing as we didn’t have summer this year in the UK, a lot of people are already thinking of the next so-called feel-good season, Christmas.
Shops are busily taking down their ‘back to school’ displays and surreptitiously replacing them with rows upon rows of family sized biscuit tins and huge boxes of chocolates. All this activity goes on despite the mutterings of disgruntled shoppers, desperately clinging on to the last rays of sun whilst doing their shopping in their Bermuda shorts and skimpy tops.

So how are you preparing your business for the festive season?

You might not need to or you may already have it sorted, or maybe you can figure out a new way to capitalise on Christmas.

(Yeah, I know. Christmas is a religious festival and all this commercialisation is devaluing its true meaning. Apologies if you think that way, I don’t wish to offend, but this is, after all, a marketing forum.)

If you haven't already, maybe consider dipping a festive toe into a Christmas niche or ten. They may be extremely seasonal by definition, but if you set it up this year, there's nothing stopping you from dusting it off every September and gaining yourself a little extra Yuletide income.

Just a thought.

Spot on Peter, and the best time to start thinking about Christmas niches etc was probably a few weeks or even months ago.

Never too late to start for the year after tho

Cheers

p.s call me sad, but I've already started buying pressies

You're right Kim. Should've been sorted earlier really, but worth a shot.

I don't think you are at all sad Kim. Every year I have all my presents bought and beautifully wrapped by the end of November and sometimes October. I have a year long plan that takes away the stress of the festive season so I can enjoy every minute of the season itself. My subscribers get month by month tips so they can join in too. I'm all for a simpler way of life.

Happy holidays!

And what's more, she is the queen of wrapping presents. They're works of art with cellophane, ribbons - just amazing. Friends bring their presents to her to wrap, she could easily start a nifty sideline (or a good how-to ebook for a Christmas niche says he, desperately trying to bring the thread back on topic!)

I have a site which has been quietly ticking away for all of the year

Kim if it's any help Rob & I sit side by side on seperate computers. And he always makes the cup of tea for me and coffee for him. He does all the washing up as well.

We have some Christmas articles (religious) for sale on our site which my husband wrote.

It is bad enough in this house with a packet of biscuits around let alone a whole tin full!
I am dreading the shops for the next 3 months, fortunately we have little family so it is usually not much of a chore doing the shopping and the social comittments are what we want not what we are duty bound to do.

I built my Christmas sites in January so I am hoping for a good autumn with them. All indexed, out of the sandbox and ranking well. Need some more promotion in the coming weeks but I am hopeful that I got it right for others to spend their cash with me.

My aunt used to buy all her Crimble pressies in the January sales and she had them wrapped the same evening.

Peter, it's a bit late preparing for this year's Christmas. I'm getting ready for 2011.

Hey Peter,

Thats a great art and needs real talent.
I feel a gift until its wrapped nicely is incomplete.
It adds a real essence to the present.
After all Packaging does matter in a big way []

May be you can help her writing an ebook on ...
How toWrap your Gifts in 5 mins!! LOL.

If you had checked out their respective ages you would have seen that Peter is actually Heather's toyboy

I almost didn't post because it was rather ungentlemanly of me to notice. Then again, you don't look your age.
