Hello-

I am currently a freshman at a college near Milwaukee. I am majoring in Sports Management, but my mother and my assistant coach ( I play basketball ) feel it is too hard of an industry to get into after college.

So basically what I am asking for advice is, what can I do in the few years in college, outside of taking classes, that can better prepare me for this industry and maybe prove that I can do some sort of sport management by succeeding in an online job of some sort?

Thanks for ANY advice you have for me.

Here is an interesting article to start with. https://cosd.experience.com/alumnus/..._1172177277938

I do work with a few teams, and the biggest hurdle any team has is ticket sales. gaining that experience and following the above articles advice would place you in a position to walk out of school with the knowledge and experience ( as well as the marketing degree I would think you would be after ) to land a great job in a teams ticket and marketing department.

I know this is probably not the glitz and glamour of player management you are thinking, but as Marc Cuban advises Mark Cuban's Advice For People Who Want To Work In Sports: 'Don't' - Business Insider its not an easy road to follow.

    Hope that Helps!

Most of the big companies hire "agents" that have not only marketing prowess but law degrees as well to negotiate contracts. You could also contact some of these firms and ask about internships.
