South Korea - Affiliate Marketing?

5 replies
OK, so I live in SK but I am originally from the UK and I have been doing Affiliate Marketing for years now basically for the US and UK markets but also adventuring out in to the European markets and other English speaking markets.

However, now I am in South Korea I can't help but notice how ridiculously well set up the country is for Online Advertising and more specifically affiliate marketing, they have the fastest internet in the world, everyone purchases products online, they have a huge weakness for coupons/promotions and are massively enticed by products which are celebrity endorsed/referred by a friend/famous/viral...it's like every single gimmick that was used in western countries 10 years ago is all the rage here today.

So, my question is - does anyone else have any experience in Affiliate Marketing for SK?

If not, why not?

If so, what exactly (if you don't mind sharing with us).

Thanks,
Will.

    Willyboy,
    Sounds like a wide open territory to pursue.

    You might be able to combine online and offline marketing there and make a fortune.

    I bet many wish they were in your shoes

    Good luck

      Will can comment on this more easily than I can, but my guess is that English is very widely spoken in South Korea, especially in the cities, perhaps even to the extent that it's a "second language"? I think everyone's compulsorily taught English in high school, there?

      Can't vouch for Will's shoes, but apart from that detail I was thinking something very similar.

        As to your question as to why not.

        Most internet marketers are followers for the most part and still see I.M as English speaking country dominant.

        But I guarantee you the first "Guru's" to come up with a ...

        "Make Millions Online From Hot Korean Market" program or system (with screenshots of course)

        you'll see more people exploring it. Until then, few will feel that adventurous.

          Yeah that is very true, everyone is taught English in primary school to a basic level, of which the majority of South Korean's forget by the time they have begun their career. However, in many cases those who go to University will need to have some level of English to enter the University.

          Overall though, the market is still predominately Korean spoken, English is only a basic level and not enough to really engage with users effectively. However, getting Korean translators is very easily done there is a huge population of America/Koreans living in America and a lot of translators who provide services on Elance and the likes of.

          In my case, my girlfriend is Korean so I don't need to worry

          That's actually a really good point and I completely, 100% agree with you - most marketers are followers, maybe I should stop looking to follow and just try!

          Overall, it just seems like such a solid market:

          1. Most popular country in the world for gaming = gaming niche potential / huge

          For example, mobile gaming is ridiculous here, the biggest mobile gaming companies plaster the underground tube stations / trains with advertisements for the latest games, huge TV advertising budgets so a game guide for clash of clans could be quite interesting.

          Another market...

          Cosmetics = massive
          Fashion = massive
          Luxury goods = massive

          Hmm I think 2015 will be a year to test a couple of things in the SK market.
