Safe Place To Check For Domain Availability?

Where's a safe place to check for available domains w/o risking them becoming n/a?

Thanks!

I use a custom program that queries the InterNIC database directly, but internic.net would be a reasonably safe place.

If in doubt test them. Enter a domain that no one would want then see if it becomes unavailable.

I've been using instantdomainsearch.com for a couple of years without any issues.

  • I also use instantdomainsearch.com and have not had any issues. Of course I've usually purchased the domain shortly after seeing that it is available.

Call me old fashioned but I usually just test whatever comes to mind on GoDaddy and in the event that it's available, I purchase the domain then and there. Sometimes even a day or two later without any problems (so far).

I wouldn't use GoDaddy. They are in control of your domain and can shut you down anytime they want (check their terms). I see most people purchasing their domains from sites like Namecheap.com now.

I use nameboy and have for a long time. No risk and can see list of domains available for keywords.

I stopped using my Portuguese retailer cause i had some nasty surprises testing names: imagine testing a domain name at 18.44 hours and 22 minutes later they were not available. Guess what, someone bought it right now and made it private.

One time is ok, 2 times is coincidence, 3 times is enough.

Yet i bought some major .com's in PT language, others just "got away".

I've lost domains at Godaddy, simply by leaving the site and returning 5 minutes later. I have friends who have had the same experience.

I use to use InstantDomainSearch.com. But, some times it does give you in-correct information. So, i have stopped using it. Now i use Godaddy.com or Dynadot.com. Dynadot.com is my favourite. It quickly allows you search for a domain and the best part is that you can book a domain in less then 2 mins. And, it does not shows you truck loads of ads.. like godaddy.

Hmmm so if you show interest in a name at a site such as GoDaddy, and don't buy it quick enough, it is possible a bot there will grab and buy it?

Nameboy is not very accurate. I have used that, been told a name is available only to find it is not.

Godaddy automatically parks domains that gets many queries.

    I use one.com, as I don't think they're that smart =P

I usually type it first, then check one.com, then register it at namecheap. I think you can also check them on namecheap, as they focus on their customers, rather than pure profits. (Although I believe they will profit from it in the end)

Don't use Godaddy - I've had good names regged up by them after a few queries.

I use namecheap.com and they don't seem to "steal" your good names.

The tool I love is Domain Name Analyzer. I've used this for over a year for domain name research and it rocks!

You can save your searches, so if you revisit a niche down the track its easy to look at what you have previously researched.

    Best of all its free.

I have had 3 domains become 'unavailable' after 15 minutes - all three on the same order at GoDaddy. I had to nip out and when I returned to buy them, they were all unavailable. All three were good, one word .coms.
Lesson learned. Now, I never search for any domain unless I can buy right away!
