One of my keywords Im using says it gets 40,500 searches a month on Google Keyword Tool but when I checked the site on website grader it said it gets 47 searches a month. It had super low totals for all my other keywords it showed too. Im a little confused since the number is so low. Just go with google?

Google KW tool numbers are WAY high for organic Google.com searches.

Is there any other web-based keyword trackers available, that are more reliable?

Use wordtracker if you can pay for it, a very reliable research tool that has been around for ages. Every professional Internet marketer swears by it.

I have found no reliable 3rd party tool for Google.com organic search volumes. I dumped Wordtracker quite some time ago when my own testing proved that for the keywords I was working the results I was getting from WT were nowhere near correct for me.

I don't know if this will help, but it beats nothing. When using the Google Adwords keyword tool...switch your search to "exact" instead of phrase and it gives you a more accurate number...at least better than using broad match.

I also turn off global search, especially if I'm targeting just the US. I've seen 50,000 plus phrase match searches drop to 500 exact match searches by using this.

For me, I just take whatever data google and wordtracker gives me. This is because even some popular keyword research tools use the google and wordtracket APIs and hence their data.

I do not think that the data is 100% accurate though. However, from what I have experienced so far, the important of search count for keyword is secondary. Sure you need search count but, even if there are only 5 counts per day, that is more than 150 searches per month!

I place more emphasis on the strength of competition which is key to finding keywords that have search count and yet easy to rank.

THey are very different because when you say Google Keyword Tool it gives you an idea on how many competitors you have on that keyword. And in Google Searches it gives you the exact site or phrase based on your search.

If you happen to have the money to spend, try getting your hands on Micro Niche Finder. It saves you a lot of time researching for keywords and allows you to work on your online business, instead of working in it.

As has been advised here already, change your search from "Broad"
match to "Exact" match in Google's keyword tool.

NOW what do your numbers say?

      100% correct.

Firstly, use 'exact' instead of 'broad' and u will see your numbers will drop.

Secondly, don't forget to check your competition on three major SEs for your keywords.

Thirdly, use KEI as the best measurement to compare 'profitability' of the keywords.

      Cheers..
