Bought a cool brandable domain - but no idea what to do with it lol

With no real plan for a site, I did a search for a domain name that I thought would be awesome brand-wise, and was surprised to find it available:

thehomeofcool.com (The Home of Cool)

So I snapped it up, as well as the .net and .org variations.

Having thought about it though, it was basically a waste of time.

I have no desire to build or run a website, so if you can think of a cool idea for a site that would fit the domain name, I'll be happy to just give it to you.

PM me if you like.

The first rule of buying domains: Always have a purpose in mind before you purchase a domain.

The problem is: everyone falls in love with their own domain but often they are the only ones that see anything in it.

Having said that, maybe you should look for a residential air conditioning company in Arizona or southern California that may want to establish the "brand."

To save you from wasting more money and/or time I suggest just do nothing till they expire. If you park them you will get a few cent maybe.

it's a cool name but that's the only thing going for it without an idea.

Think about products that may have the word cool associated with them or what things come to mind when you think of cool.

For me it would be refrigeration, ice. You could perhaps approach local companies and suggest the domain to them or perhaps another suggestion go onto facebook and look for artists who scult ice.

Some ice sculptures particularly for wedding go for big bucks so you might setup the domain with a blog attached and drive some traffic or get it ranked for ice sculpture keywords for weddings etc and then message the facebook page of the artist and show that its already ranking for some keywords and sell it off or if this is too much just try and make your money back by selling the domains at cost price.

That's hilarious... you bought a domain name with all 3 extensions with no desire to create a website or use the domains...
really... just let them expire or build a website on them...
why else would you buy them?

oh and facebook before it was facebook.com it was thefacebook.com, but they dropped the "THE"
so homeofcool.com is better branding than THEhomeofcool.com

just a heads up... now that doesn't mean you need to go ahead and register those same domains and still not do anything with them ))

I've often done that, Peter (not quite so often all three extensions, admittedly, but the .com, anyway).

Some of us, believe it or not, make part of our livings that way. They're rather a tradable commodity, even without websites.

It's the word "so" that's the problem there: what you're saying doesn't necessarily follow at all. For myself, I'd definitely have registered "thehomeofcool.com", if I'd found it (I admit I wouldn't have bought the other two extensions), and more willingly than just "homeofcool.com".

In my opinion, it's potentially worth something more than reg-fee. If you can be bothered, and if you have the skills, I think you can sell it/them.

I believe you can sell it. Don't listen to negativity and just go and sell it. It's a 'cool' name

Catchy names don't do it anymore...

You have to have great content people want to see and provide awesome value.

When I first started I was buying domains like left and right thinking that someone would pay me millions for a great name... I was completely wrong.

I had a domain called RevolverJoe dot com and I thought it was going to be future movie or something. I put it up for sale for huge amount got nothing.

I found that people when they buy a domain want it already profitable or complete or ranking.

I would suggest you build a site on it with your idea and put content on it and then sell it

or work to make it a good site and get some eyeballs to it and promote your products off of it using banners.

Not my experience at all: I generally find them easy to sell. They appeal to far more people, so the chances of getting a decent offer are higher.

Content has nothing to do with it, Andre. We're talking about domaining, here, not selling websites.

You cannot really know something until you try.
And if you fail, try again.
Try and try again until you succeed.

That is literally a "Cool" Name...

As previously mentioned. You have a few options... but its always a good idea to have a plan in mind before purchasing domains.

But I for one have also been guilty of purchasing many domains...

    Good Luck...

Be realistic. I doubt very much that you will make even 1c if you park them. And I doubt very much that you will get a buyer if you try to sell it using the direct approach. But... I think you still have a chance. If I were you - I would do the following.
1] You need to have .com and both .net and .org under different names. You should have bought them from the beginning either under different names or to have them under private registration. Too late for that. So the easiest option - find someone whom you can trust and transfer both .net and .org to that person's account and then put them under private registration [you do this just in case the potential buyer decides to check domain's WHOIS History].
2] Buy .info and .biz under private registration.

Another words - you need to be in a situation when all major extensions are taken and apart from .com owner is unknown.
All the above will cost you extra 20-30 bucks but it's worth to spend that.
Then put you .com for sale in:
Go Daddy Premium, Sedo and Flippa. Aim for $1k and you might sell it for around $700
If you sell it - good, if not - still good, it was a good lesson and you have learned something.

And of course you always have another option - don't do anything and let them expire.
But I prefer a "don't give up" approach.

This advice is ludicrous. Don't throw good money after bad.

You presume that there is any natural demand for such a name. I am afraid the seller will find no such interest.

If I was a betting man, I would say your most profitable course of action - by far - is to quit while you are ahead and give them away or let them expire.

You could, alternatively, work hard to find a buyer at a nominal markup with a very low chance of success.

Personally, I think the $30 you just paid for the lesson in domain marketing is a bargain.

Many people waste hundreds or thousands in lousy domain purchases before getting the hang of it. Learn something from this, and your investment won't be entirely wasted.

You can create an online store for all the home interior design products. You can enable the users to create various combinations on your website to check what will look good in their home. An online home decor store will work great for you with that domain name.
