A Couple Of Questions About Clickbank Products.

Hi all,

I've started looking for a product/niche to market.

One of the main places to go is Clickbank, but having read some negative reports, I would like your honest opinion.

The negatives that I'm concerned about are :-

1. Customers may buy a product, but after they've read it they ask for their money back even though they may have found it useful.

2. For some reason people don't like to buy from a affiliate, so they remove the affiliates link from the url before they buy, this of course means the affiliate doesn't earn any commission.

Can anyone advise on these points ?

Your comments would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

John

Refunds, they happen if your don't promote the product right. Of course some people will just want a free ride but that's part of the job.

Link to the affilate link using fixed frames. You link always remains at the top of the page that way.

That'd be what link cloaking is for, isn't it?

For affiliates CB is a guaranteed payment provided there are no refunds.

What I do for my affiliate links is to hide them (not sure if they are being 'cloaked' according to the strict definition of the term.) This is how I do it.

I create a subdirectory on my website (I usually use Wordpress blogs) called recommends or recommended.

In that subdirectory I create a PHP file called <product_name>.php

This PHP file contains the following code:

    Code:
    <? header("Location: http://<my_id>.<product>.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=<tracking_id>"); ?>
Then when the user clicks on the link they are automagically redirected to the product page and my hop link is preserved.

      A few things...

      1) Make sure you are promoting the product correctly, so people don't end up with a product they didn't expect. If you're promoting dog training, for instance, you'll want to focus your marketing on dog training, not on dog nutrition or dog adoption.

      2) I don't know how much of an issue Link Cloaking is, but CB states on their site that they cannot guarantee that cloaked links will be recognized by CB's system. Which means, you might refer someone and never get credited for sales coming from that cloaked link. You have to be careful how you cloak your links.

      3) Refunds is all part of doing business, whether you're selling as an affiliate or your own product. Read through any info (perhaps here in the Forum) about how to minimize refunds, which goes back to my first point.

      4) If CB and affiliate marketing was not profitable, there wouldn't be so many people succeeding and keeping at it. You might lose a sale here and there, but if you make enough referrals, you will profit to the point the lost sales won't matter.

      Hope this helps.

Would anyone be punished by Google for "cloaked Links"?

No. Google doesn't care as long as the landing page is related to the ad and not some sort of phishing or other illegal site.
