I heard this terminology quite a few times but never try to understand it truly. VErticals seems to me niches that are related some way but don't know how they are related. Any example would be appreciated.

What I understand verticals being is basically:

Lets say you own a car dealership. You could also offer services from that car dealership like,

maintenance and car parts available for purchase etc. Those would be verticals surrounding the "center" product/service: car dealership.

Maybe branches of that niche? But I was curious to know if there is anything like horizontals?

Yeah verticals might as well just be another fancy name for niche.

This does not need to be complicated. A vertical is a specific niche.

There is a pretty focused market for high school lab equipment. That is a vertical.

You can add new verticals by branching out to commercial lab equipment and home hobbyist lab equipment.

    What do you sell?

Absolutely verticals are when you focus on a tightly focused niche. Even focusing on one type of customer within a niche can be a vertical as well.

Horizontals are selling across a broader spectrum of Industries and a wider range of customers within them.

This term is mostly used by CPA networks. Lets say you want to join a CPA network and you have to do an on the phone interview they would ask you, What is your vertical? You would say something like email or zip submits. In other words you like to promote offers that collect a person's email or zip code.
