Hi, what does it mean to 'build a list?' Such as: building email list? Likewise, how do I build email list? How do I maintain the list? People have been telling me to build a email list but I don't understand the concept.

    Basically get there email somehow, a form, save these emails and email them something useful often, and every so often email out your affiliate product / offers. This is how you really make the good money.

    Hi Knightsofusa

    Basically List-Building is collecting the names & e-mail addresses of the people interested in specific subject matter. The whole purpose of building an e-mail list is that later on we can market the products to this list with our affiliate link and make some revenue.

      List building is a way to create a business online that will last a lot longer than throwing affiliate links on a web page. The main concept as described by other posters is that you need to create a site (blog, squeeze page, landing page, youtube channel etc) and get the visitor to sign up to your email subscription service or newsletter.

      To get these people on your newsletter you will need to provide a good deal of value before hand. Something like an ebook, e-course, video series or a great article. This will get subscribers or contacts on your 'list'.

      When you have subscribers on your list you can create a relationship by further providing them value and every once in a while giving them a recommendation of a product that you have tested yourself.

      This will give you a fairly responsive list that actually look forward to your emails. Do not just sell them crap that makes you a good commission or you are not going to get very far in this business. List building has more to do with building a relationship than selling stuff to them.

      This obviously is the most abstract view of this business. The best way to go about building a list is to...

      1. Tackle 1 segment at a time and try and master it.
      2. It doesn't have to be perfect
      3. Just implement while you learn. Don't just read a book you buy and then try and buy another one thinking that you need to know more. Implement, and if you are stuck, ask the forums.

    List building means collecting emails of customers. If you are a movers collect emails who wants to move one place to another several times per year. If you are skilled hardware or software technician then collect emails of companies which has 20-50 computers at their office. So list building is collecting emails together of your business customers. You can advertise your business to them and offer them your services. Make a good relationship with them to earn regularly from them.

    You will need to purchase an autoresponder service from a site such as GetResponse and then load it with your messages. You can also use your broadcast feature of the autoresponder service to mail out periodic news to any who subscribe to your list.

    To get subscribers, you will install the autoresponder code on your page (such as in the side column of your blog) and anyone wanting to do so, would opt in from there.

    This assumes you have a website, Autoresponder, and freebie hosted so you can link to it.

    What you will need:

    #1 A squeeze page
    #2 A OTO (one time offer) page
    #3 A freebie thank/download page
    #4 A "register your purchase" page for one time offer buyers
    #5 A paid product thank/download page

    Set up two lists in your AR. A subscribers list and a OTO buyers list. You will need to learn your ARs automation process to automatically unsub people who register their purchase and join your buyers list.
    For settings for your subscribers (squeeze page) form select "custom thank you page" enter the URL of your OTO. I always use single opt so subscribers are instantly sent to my OTO. I also put on my squeeze page "...will be sent instantly to your inbox." This way when people land on my OTO they won't wonder where their freebie is.

    If people decline your OTO they leave, and access their freebie via the link to your freebie thank/download page that you sent to their email via your first followup message. More complex funnels have more to offer.

    If they buy your OTO they are redirected by your payment processor to your "register" page. Enter it's URL when you setup your buy button.

    When people register they are automatically moved to your buyers list and redirected to your thank/download page. Enter it's URL for your buyers form custom thank you page.

    You have now delivered on your squeeze page promise and have a happy subscriber.

    That can be accomplished by getting someone's email, with their permission, which they have entered in on some type of form, which is usually (but not always) a squeeze page.

    I recently found an article that is PERFECT for you. It walks you through why you need to build a list and exactly how to do it (for free).

    It's by Robbie Richards: How To Grow Your Email List To 1,634 Subscribers In 5 Months

    I highly recommend following his advice. After implementing everything in that article, you should be good to go to build your list.

    List building is building a list of email subscribers.

    You must have an autoresponder to build your list:
    -Aweber
    -GetResponse

    ^The 2 best options

    To build your list you place an opt-in form (a form where people enter their email adress) on a web page. Then drive traffic to the webpage.

    Once you have collected their email adress, then you can begin email marketing to them.

    The concept is to have targeted traffic in the click of a button.

    Building a list of emails can give you that kind of traffic.

    For example, if you have 5.000 subscribers with 50% open ratio
    then you've got youself 2.500 people reading your email.

    This email can be redirecting to them to your blog, offer or even
    just saying "hello" to your subscribers.

    Remember: They are people with feelings, not emails. So treat them like people.

    In order to build a list your need an auto-responder service that collects the emails
    and allows you to schedule the email posting.

    Aweber, GetResponse, Mailchimp are some of the most popular autoresponders.

    It's easy to collect emails, it's harder to keep them interested.

    It's not when you've got value to share and not see them as $$$.
    Your target is money after all, but if you treat them as wallets then you'll get a sad re-action.

      GetResponse and Aweber are probably the most obvious to begin with. You'll have all that data in the backend, so you can see for yourself whether those emails appear fake or not. At the end of the day, it's most likely going to be a case of where you're getting your traffic from.

      With regards to if they're still active, you'll get all that data again. Who's opening your emails, who hasn't opened an email in the last 3-6months, who hasn't clicked on any email links etc...

      If you plan on selling products(such as a WSO), it would be best to sign up with GetResponse because you can "automatically" build a list from each buyer.

    Build a list is where you have people on an autoresponder (thats the service you email from) that are interested in a certain topic. Your job is to help them reach their ultimate goal.

    You do this by giving away some tips (don't overdo this) and by selling stuff to them.

    You've received some good responses. I would only add that mailchimp is free and is a good start while you figure out how to do this. You can always export your list to aweber later once you want to start paying for more features.

    The biggest thing about the free mailchimp service is that you can only do broadcast emails, not auto-responders. In the early days, that's not such a big deal.

    You're probably familiar with the quote "Money is in the LIST" and I believe building an email list is one of the most effective ways to make money online. You can make passive income online once you grow your email list. You obviously need to drive traffic to your squeeze page (optin page) in order to build the email lists. For fast result I would recommend starting with solo ads and FB pay-per click.

    a list is a group of email addresses that are familar with or responsive to you. you can maintain it with anyone of several autoresponders. Go here this may help.
