Does having an accent increase sales?

Hi,

I love watching videos that promise amazing results and then clicking the nearby PayPal button, and I've noticed that almost all the video feature a speaker with a noticeable accent. Does having such an accent increase sales?

best,

Boyd

Everyone has an accent, Boyd: Americans have an American accent; the British have a British accent; the Australians have an Australian accent ... and so on (and that's without thinking about "regional accents" at all)?

(In the UK, it's rather common for financial services ads of many kinds to be presented by someone with a Scottish accent, because some research has shown that Scottish accents are more "trusted" overall, in the UK, regarding financial issues. And there are many other equivalents/variations of this, in other countries. It's something people spend a lot of research money/time investigating. But I'm thinking primarily of TV advertising, in making this comment.)

I'm sure there's a lot of truth in that, and that big companies with a big budget have tested various speakers to see which one's resulted in the highest ROI.

So yeah in marketing nothing is a coincidence.

A lot of Americans love the British accent. I'm told that a lot of British people love the American 'accent'. It's probably extremely subjective.

    Hi Boyd

I have a thick American accent and it sure does help when I'm talking to Australians.
When I talk to people back in the states they assume I'm Australian until we connect
on the phone. Then they tell me how they love listening to a real Aussie accent.

"Howdy Ya'll"! (That's Texas accent for Hey guys.) An accent is any one speaking that is not from your native language and region. So to me anyone out side of Texas has an accent and we Texans speak "normal". But to the rest of the world, we Texans have an accent to them.

I think it is best to have the "accent" to be native to the audience you are trying to reach. It makes it easier on the ears and the mind in general.

        Boyd,

The way to be sure is to test several variations, track the results, and see what works best. Until you do that, you are just guessing. I would imagine (my own guess) that the niche and what you're offering may have something to do with it as well.

    Hi,

I suppose you could test this theory out.

You could ask several people with different accents to create a video
around the exact same copy and then drive traffic to them to see which
    comes out on top.

Testing this theory out for real would be the only to judge in reality.

Also confidence is a big thing here.

Once you have created enough videos you find your own confidence
and way of being able to persuade others to take action on what it is
    you want them to do.

Whenever you see someone who comes across as being in control and
confident in what they're saying you're always more than likely to keep on
watching the video for the full duration.
