How does the RAP Membership Addon work?

Does it create its own unique membership site, or can it easily integrate with forums?

It looks, from the sales page, like it will somehow tie to a WP blog, but it says nothing about forums.

What I'm looking for is a way to offer a forum membership only to folks with a confirmed purchase through RAP.

Hey,

It's actually pretty cool. After the customer makes a purchase through RAP, they can be redirected straight to the membership registration page instead of going to the download page.

Once they register and sign in they go to a welcome page. you can send them anywhere from there.

Now the really cool part is the membership add-on allows you to protect any subfolder on your server. What that means is you can have a members only blog or forum and you have to be signed in to get access to it, and it doesn't have to be under the membership area. So if you have an existing blog or forum you can use that.

You can add just about any content you want and protect it so that you have to be signed in to get at it. I have some streaming video pages as well as a download page. I'm adding a bunch more stuff too for my customers.

Like the RAP script itself, your downloads can be fully protected and not even accessible through the web, only through the membership add-on script. This allows you some serious protections for your data.

It's a pretty nice addition to RAP and takes it to a whole new level in my honest opinion.

I believe Stangracer already covered most of the overall features of what you're looking/asking for, but the one thing remains is the auto-integration in the forums.

This is always a tricky question, bcz there are so many forum softwares avail. I've personally done a custom job for the vbulletin forum site. it does some custom work on the member id availability as well as email. However, it's highly dependent on what you ultimately want to do.

I suggest placing a request in the helpdesk for rap-extras.com/helpdesk with your specifics and see how it can be done to fit your needs.

unfort. since every piece of forum software out there tries to do their own thing... it's always diff. to code for every one of them, in a succint manner.

also,
as it ties into the wp blog-type structure... YES, as it applies to any software, script, site, etc... that can be driven by a single index.php (on downwards), the membership script provides a few lines of code that your script/blog/site will check for to confirm if the subdirectory/site sought should be protected or not (to the visitor).

I was thinking of using phpBB 3.0.5.

I like the idea that I can have an entire forum in a protected folder, as long as it's pretty easy for users to handle the login.

It would be strange, though, if they had to login twice...once to get into the 'members only' directory, and then again to post in the forum.

Just as a follow-up...

I got RAP and the Membership Addon. It's perfect for what I need.

I created several pages with videos on them that cannot be accessed unless the user is logged into the membership area. And users can only become 'members' when their sale is confirmed, so the membership signup form doesn't even need any extra protection.

It's pretty cool!

Just wondering from you (or the RAP doc!) how exactly this works... is the membership signup form actually protected, or just well hidden and used as the thank-you page after a purchase is made.

The form is protected.

Only completed purchases are eligible for signup.

Like other 'secure download' scripts, it uses the IPN data coming back from PayPal to create a unique download link.

With the membership addon, it also uses that data to generate a Registration Link to the members-only site.
