Does anyone know how this type of deal is set up?

Hi Warriors,

I'm looking at several sites that offer various products that you can download free. These come with MRR and/or PLR. From what I've seen so far, these are quality products. Of course, you can upgrade to a paid membership and get even more products.

But here's the thing...

The site is run by a well-known successful marketer. It is not the same as the Giveaway sites but it does take a similar approach. The majority of the products he's offering are written by others. You cannot modify them, but you can do use them to build your list, offer as bonuses, and resell, etc.

What kind of arrangement would the site owner have in place for all those authors to provide free products? Since there are pages of free products, the site owner will not be making any money from those. However, the authors will get the free viral marketing benefits.

Here are my questions:

1) Would the authors seek other income from the site owner as well?
2) How would the site owner be making money from these free offers?

Thanks for your input.

    Hi Sylvia,

Without seeing the site, I would say the whole point is for list building. I know a couple of them that set up a 'giveaway' with certain marketers, then you sign up for access to the downloads, but have to opt in to each offering to get the downloads.

It's more for the list for future promotions that for selling now.

    Thanks,

    John

I guess what you're talking about here is an example of viral marketing.

If the reports are given away for free and you cannot modify them, that means they've a lot of links to the "well-known successful marketer's" site. There could be references to some paid products linked as an affiliate.

Sometimes, a BIG BANNER calling "Get $1997 worth for FREE" is enough for getting your readers' interest.

Personally, I won't recommend giving away such reports to build your list since chances are high that your subscriber will also signup to the other marketer's list and there's an obvious reason you won't want that.

On another note, those who write such reports are normal ghost-writers who're paid per word.

      Thanks for your replies.

      John...

It's a membership site that has a free section (where all these great products are available to download - without signing on to anyone else's list), and you have several paid membership levels you can join as well. So no, it's not a giveaway site, but a membership (free and paid) site.

      ClaytonJ...

As above, you don't have to sign onto someone else's list to get the downloads on the first guy's site. But... the author's links are in the products so there would be that benefit (or issue for the site owner). The question is, are the contributors offering PLR products or just one-off products? If PLR, then they would be direct competition, which would be bad for the site owner.

On the other hand, it's possible the site owner has grabbed those products with resale / giveaway rights as opposed to having people contribute them for viral marketing benefits. Of course, they do benefit regardless.

I'm just not clear if the general procedure is for those products to be contributed and given away to benefit the site owner who wants to build his list and his membership base. This is actually a good approach because you don't have to pay someone to create the products or do them yourself - which is a huge savings.

Maybe I just answered my own question.

        Yeah, you just did.

Its possible that the marketer is just editing PLR products to include his/her links and then giveaway the report with no private label rights. This way, its minimum cost for maximum marketing exposure.

Maybe I'm gonna try something similar this week.
